I lost one of my younger sister's 3 years ago this September. She was a Palm beach County Ocean life guard and had a seizure, which was a result of her diabetes, while out training one morning doing her normal 2 mile swim before she got up on the stand. It was devestating to say the least but I found alot of comfort in the fact that even though she knew the riskd involved she never let it deter her from what she wanted to do wit her life. She would have never had it any other way. She was 26.
Ths past Tuesday my fahter's 26 year old step son drowned while out fishing. He had just graduated from the U of FL this past Jan and was kicking at home here in North Palm for a couple of months as a mate on one lof the local drift boats before going up to Conn to work for his Aunt's real estate firm. He had gone out about 200 yds off the dock in a little dingy to fish a grouper hole after they had gotten back in from their afternoon trip and 3 hours later they found him floating in the water. He was a good kid, hardly drank and had never been in any kind of serious trouble besides the normal dumb kid stuff we've all done.
The toughest part is watching my Dad go through all of this again, grantyed its not exactly the same but he had finally found happiness with this woman and I really enjoyed the times I came to visit them. the older I've gotten the more I've come to appreciate the sacrifices both my folks gave to make sure their children had the best they could provide and I sawa part of my father die when we lost my sis, Erin. He didn't deserve to have to go through this again.
I don't mean to be a bummer but I needed to vent. I have always looked at bitter people as weak hearted folk who couldn't accept responsibility for their own choices but now I find myself one of them. I'm pissed off and I'd love to show God my ass in person right now.
