It does seem like a rockin' PC - it certainly blows mine away. In terms of the price, I have no idea. I haven't kept up on prices for a while. Is this something you are putting together, or a fully configured system from someone? That will make a difference in the price for sure.
Putting it together for someone.. in exchange I get a new ASUS GeForce 6800 GT 128MB Card 🙂 They wanna do a lot of sound mixing. He's a fellow DJ at the radio station I work at.
It's a kick ass system, but if it's for sound mixing, do you really need a GeForce 6800? :-)
We use to mix all our commercials on Pentiums at the radio station I worked at. Sound doesn't take near as much power as video. But hey, it's still a kick ass system and if you are getting that card, I would say it's really worth it.
So, what's the scoop on DJing? Where at? What format?
I think it is too! The GeForce 6800 listed is actually the one I'm getting. I'm selling him my AUS GeForce 5700 256MB since that should be more than enough for what he wants to do. With that Audigy 4 Pro Soundcard and it's abilities he should be more than set for sound mixing and such. Might even be able to remotely control/edit/fix any problems that go on with the radio station from his house.. since I know our engineer has a setup from his home that allows him to tap in and correct problems that come up sometimes like with dead air.. The only question I have is if I should set him up with an IDE/EIDE or SATA Hard Drive. Any suggestions there?
In regards to DJing.. work for Clearchannel Sioux City.. Yes wonderful corporate radio.. 5 stations.. one building.. great atmosphere.. my co-workers are the best.. just really busy and hectic this time of year.. Our formats range from Rock..To Pop..Some Urban.. AC.. on the FM's Newstalk and Sports on our 2 AM.. this coming Thursday I will be working a 2pm-midnight shift (possibly midnight-5am as well) during a charity event our rock station is taking part in.. it will be interesting to see how long I last before I drop from exhaustion 😛 ..
I would go with the SATA without a doubt. Disk Access Speed is probably the single most important thing for sound, especially when working with a lot of large tracks.
My Sister-In-Law was an accountant at IBP in Sioux City for a few years. She still works for Tyson (bought IBP), but moved to a plant in Kansas. I don't know much about the radio up there, but I do know they had Don and Mike. :-) Hymen might disagree, but I liked them. 😛
Cool I'll go with the SATA then.. any advice thou in regards to installation? Is it the same as an IDE? In regards to like Thermaltake round cables as well.. should still be compatible with that right?
Yep Tyson is big here.. especially now that Gateway is going down the tubes.. the new Events Center here had its naming rights bought by Tyson..

I don't think the hard drive will be compatible with those cables. They use SATA cables that are really small. You might look them up to see what I am talking about.
Also, make sure the Mobo you are buying will boot to SATA as a primary drive. I ran into some problems with mine, but it had to do with the fact that I mirrored 2 SATA. If I had stripped them as a single drive, I could have booted from it.
hmmm Where abouts would you recommend I look? Doing a general search seems to bring up too many random forums. the Mobo is the one above.. all the 64-Bit Mobo's should have that option right? This whole RAID thing I'm still trying to learn and understand and its not getting any easier! From what I understood it was mostly for if you have two physical drives.. and it just splits the data between the two (which I don't get how spliting the data makes it any faster either) Ah the joys of technology..
