I just read my tivo newsletter and they are starting a rewards program for referring friends to tivo. All I need to do is refer 15 people to get an upgraded tivo and transfer my lifetime service. With that said, this is the help Atomm get a new Tivo and more thread. :-)

Before I bought a tivo, someone told me it was really cool and they couldn't imagine TV without it. I didn't think much of it at the time, but the truth is I hate watching TV without my Tivo. If you start a program 20 minutes late, you can forward through all the commercials and still finish up at almost the same time as a person who watched the commercials. Do that for 3 one hour programs and you just watched 3 shows in 2 hours and bought yourself an hour to do other things. Needless to say, I am hooked.

Does Tivo come with a subscription to any of the porn channels? If not, then I emplore somebody to tell me why I would possibly care about fastforwarding, rewinding, slow-mo or pause. Can I use it to skip the show content and get right to the meat of the commercials? Does it pick up French commercials? Tony the Tiger doesn't exactly work me into the frenzied urge to break into my turbo fists style like he used to and they simply don't run Teletubbies commercials anymore.
You could fast forward through any content viewable on your tv. You can also record any of that content. You could then fast forward to all the really cool commercials. :-)

We have a couple of teletubbies videos around pawz if you want them. My kids grew out of them and they are like an hour a piece. Imagine, a whole hour to enjoy rather than the 30 second commercials....
I was trying to talk my wife into Tivo this weekend, when she pointed out, isn't that why you HAD to have the All in Wonder card? So, If I somehow win this arguement, I will use you as the referererrerer person. ( my plan is to dump the All in Wonder, buy a 9800 and then get tivo. But I will need to come into some money first.) ;-)
Good luck with that Bubba. We are thinking of getting one, but will likely get it via our Satellite Co as it will be integrated with the receiver. If we go with a TIVO though, I will use you as the referrer Atomm.
though i dont have it myself i would definitely recommend tivo to those who are just thinking about it. i work for directv and everyone that i have spoken to who has it just loves it. especially sports fans. its really nice if you work during a game so that you can just watch it when you get home. and everything usually works out great unless someone ruins it for you and tells you the score. but all the customers who have it havnt really had many problems with it that i know of. and now directv (and i guess dish network too, maybe) has a hd/dvr combo (dvr = tivo), so you can get hd programming and record it too. only thing is that you need to get the other hd stuff (ie dish and tv) but its worth it in the end.
on another note, those same, pretty decent folks that have tivo beome assholes when we turn their tv off for non payment. and then they bitch when we dont turn it back on for non payment.

I didn't use to, but with Jodi being pregnant, I have spent more time off the computer. Not much else to do, so I record a few shows and watch them when I can.
BTW, I was thinking about this. 4 referrers will get ipods. I was thinking how cool it would be to offer ipods from Gamers Radio, maybe even at next years QuakeCon. It would take all of us to do it, but it could be really cool. I would work towards it too. Means no new Tivo for me, but if everyone pulls together, I think it would be worth it.
FYI, Satellite Tivo's don't count towards this. Gotta be the standard tivo set.

I wan a TIVO device and was thinking about a TIVO when I read a review of the top 5 dvr's in wired magazine. They gave their high score to the new ReplayTV. They said that it has higher audio/video quality, comes standard with an onboard nic (unlike TIVO) and costs around $150 (TIVO about $200). So I think I will be buying a ReplayTV. Sorry Atomm.
I remember last year on slashdot, they linked to an article actually called "Fucking the consumer" and showed 10 of the newest Tivo clones made by other companies. Of the 10 only one allowed you to skip commercials, which was quoted as being one of the largest selling points for Tivo. Of course, the media companies are shitting their pants over this and have placed a lot of pressure on manufacturers not to allow this to happen, hence only 1 out of 10 doing it.
Talk about customer satisfaction. Does ReplayTV skip commercials?
I thought ReplayTV went bankrupt. Didn't even know they were still around. Either way, I still love my Tivo.
The goal here is to build up a few items for GR to give away. I thought this would be the cheapest way to do it. Just keep us in mind if you know anyone who is buying a Tivo. Between all of us, surely we can come up with 4 referals.
Well... a 4gig Ipod runs about 249.00 and a series 2 Tivo 80 hr unit runs 269.00 on average. So we could actually pony up to a challenge of donating 25.00 to 50.00 each and use that to kick up some Gamers Radio prize fodder 😉
