Video Card

In two weeks I am going to finally get a new video card. So Im asking all you Tech Savy mofos for your opinions. Price range around 140$

ATI has the better bang for your buck, but can have problems with BFV and BCV. If this is your main game, which I thought it was, I would still with Nvidia. You won't get as much bang for the buck, but you will get optimized drivers for BFV and FarCry.

Maybe a Raddy 9600 Pro for that cash, or if you can go to a 9800 Pro. I've also heard that the XT's are looking rather tasty but they are a bit more expensive. I use a Gigabyte 9600 Pro and have no problems with BFV.

I looked through that site, and it seemed my price range allowed for the specifications of the card linked below. There were Alot of differant name brands with these same specs, but the prices were all differant. Is there a certain name brand to look for or avoid? These are my choices as of now.

Put it this way, the Gigabyte Rad 9600 Pro was the best for your cash in PCZone for months and months, just been overtaken by some Nvidia card (can't remember which) but it is more expensive. The 9800 Pro really is coming down in price tho. If I was buying a card now I'd go for the 9800 Pro, it will walk over Far Cry and Half Life 2.

Ever since VooDoo got out of the Video Card race (totally screwed up call IMHO) I have had ATI cards. I have never had any problems with them in any game. I have the 9800 nonpro; however, everyplace in the machine calls it a pro, and my old 8500LE is kicking it in the server machine without any issues at all. If it was me I would get ATI. Right now I am trying to talk myself into the X800 before QuakeCon. 🙂

9800 Pro 128MB here... I, personally, only suggest ATI... And the new X800XT is amazing... Blowing away the new nVidia card like it was nothing 🙂

LoU, do you have an Nvidia card currently? If so, something to think about is the new card will use the same drivers. If you switch cards, you will need to install new drivers. Just ask Tuna, Racer and Raze what this did to BFV.

I agree with everyone that the 9800 Pro is the best card for the price, just at 200, but given the problems people have had switching from Nvidia to ATI, I think you should have all the info.

Well Ive used both brands in many different generations now. Currently I have a 9800pro and think highly of it for many games. However, BFV ran like ASS with my ATI until I turned everything down. My friend Baz has an Nvidia FX5600 and can run BFV in much greater detail even though that card doesn't hold a candle to a 9800pro, so if your only buying this stuff to run BFV better, you might think about the Nvidia FX cards after all.

ah, who cares about mixing drivers!!!! FORMAT and ReInstall is the only way to go. 😄

hehe, yeah I just noticed that DirectX is having issues on my other box that I use for my server. I have 19 days left on my subscription to ASE. Once that is dead I am going to reinstall the OS. Would do it sooner but can't find all the reg crap for ASE and I am not going to pay for a new reg when I have days left. 🙂

I just keep using the trial version

yeah, but 10 buck's for a year isn't going to hurt me. Plus with the registered version you can put as many as you wish in the buddylist. And since everyone loves change the way they have their name it comes in handy.
