Virtual CD shares or more...

Where I work has a networked attached CD file server that is about to become obsolete and is already causing us problems. The issue is, the only networking it provides is WINS and we are doing away with that here. I am already seeing issues with remote people not being able to see the device anymore. My Idea was to to do a software solution instead of hardware. We have plenty of servers to host it and plenty of space to use.

What I need to do is share out CD's as file shares.

Many of these are natively in an ISO format, so I was hoping for some kind of ISO mounting utility to share out the files.

My first thought was, DAEMON Tools, but they only support up to 4 drives. I'm looking at 21 current cd shares to recreate.

I have found a couple other tools that seem to work, even a free one from microsoft, but I loose the drives after a reboot.

I was wondering if anyone else was using some kind of software solution to do the same thing?

Ours would have to be:
Run on Windows Server 2003
Support more than 20 drives
ISO support

Let me carify one thing...

Your problably asking, why not copy the contents of the CD's to a folder. Half the time this would be true, but the other half I'd have to either burn an ISO to CD/DVD or extract it. I was just trying to save some steps.

I say hire 11 monkeys and each holds 2 cds and will exchange the cds as necessary. If you need the ability for additinal cds you can just buy more monkeys. And to quote the SNL "Bathroom" monkey sketch, "When you are done with the bathroom monkey, just throw him out!". You may want to consider a 12th monkey in case one of the first 11 fails or needs a pee break.

Alcohol 52% would have done the trick.. the full version
Supports up to 31 Drives

P.S. I never did like Alcohol 110% much. The last time I used it it just seemed very bloated. Maybe it has changed. I am not familiar with Alcohol 52%.

I just started using 52%.. a great unbloated vs of 120%.. drops all teh burning but keeps everything else.

I'm rather fond of Alcohol 80 proof. . .

Sorry its Everclear for this man... If it doesn;t taste like rubbing alcohol its not good enough. Unless its whiskey or mixed with OJ.

I try not to kill all my brain cells at once. Bourbon's bad enough. 🙂

For a period of several years, a group of us used to go camping, which was mainly an excuse to drink, build camp fires, eat lots of grilled meat, and drink some more. One year, a rum called Paramount 151 was introduced to the mix.

A friend summed up the experience both accurately and succinctly: "That rum hurt me."

Nonetheless, it was a staple thereafter 😀

On the topic of rum a good bottom-shelf rum that mizes well with everything is Castillo Silver. Easy easy easy to drink and tasty with a splash of coke. Just make sure to drink plenty of water afterwards it likes to dry you out.

Ha I have a great Castillo story.

We were in Montreal over New Years... we were all more or less broke. It was about noon on the second day and we had already drunk all of the alcohol we had pruchased for the entire trip. So my buddy and I went down from our hotel room to the nearest liquer store with the purpose of finding the alcohol with the most bang for our buck.

We ended up finding castillo rum dirt cheap, I think it was like $4 canadian (this was during the 2-1 exchange rate era). The best part was the $4canadian half gallon of rum came with the substantial sample bottle of goldschlager. so for a total of more or less $4 american we got a gallon of rum and maybe a litre of goldschlager. having never heard of castillo, we thought it would be really bad tasting. first rum and coke made was 75% coke and 25% rum, and it tasted too cokey... second drink was 50-50 and was still good. so we went about seeing how far we could stretch it we found 25%coke and 75% rum worked. needless to say my buddy and I finished the half gallon within hours, but there was always more.

That is the measure of Castillo Rum, fill the glass with rum color with coke.. 75/25 rum/coke is a decent mix before it starts to bite.

We use to make everclear jello shots before going out before I was 21. We had to mix a little water with it to help it jell, but it was really cool. You'd take a few shots before heading in and about 15-30 minutes later, it would all release into your system and you had a buzz that would last all night.

Another trick we had was with Wellers 101. This is one of the smoothest whiskey's with a high proof, but it's hard to find. We'd do a shot or two and run to the club, then have a few beers right when we got there. Within 30 minutes, we had a good buzz that lasted all night and by the time you went home, you were good to drive.
