Voting tomorrow

Warning! This post will have many of my own opinions. These opinion are not of Gamers Radio or any of its staff or members besides myself. It is in this post that I hope to discuss what most people are about to do.

About me: I, at this time, am not a registered voter. There does not pass a day that I regret it at this time. Due to many things coming up, registering was next to impossible to do for this election. I hope that many of you have not been like me and have registered to vote so your voice can be heard.

As I am an American citizen, I do feel that I have the right to voice my opinions regardless on if I am registered or not. [So no saying “You didn't vote, so you can't complain”]

Moving on...

Many people are about to make a huge decision that will effect the future of our country and government. They will do their duty, and make their voice heard, by going to the polls and voting for their favorite presidential candidate. In this action, these people will either help or hurt our stance in the world today.

My first question is, would you vote for someone that once joked about things being easier if this was a dictatorship? As long as he was the dictator?

That blew me away when I first heard about this. Sure, it was a joke, but some thing you don't joke about in public.

Do you think that we did the right thing going into Iraq? Now this is a touchy one that many people will argue over for days on end. The way I see it, we were dealing with one issue [The people that actually attacked us.], couldn't catch the leader, and then moved on to the next best thing in the eyes of the current president. Why? Iraq did not attack us!

Sure, Iraq was being lead by someone that most of think is evil. But should we have halted our current actions to pursue another? What was more important, going after the people that attacked us or waging war on another “evil”? Many people have said “You should always finish what you started”. And I agree. Sure, Iraq may have needed to be looked into, but I don't agree that it was done at the right time, right reasons or the right way. An attack like this should be planned and carried out by the majority and not by a man bent on carrying out something that his dad started a while back.

Can we just leave Iraq? No! That is not an option and it is very sad that we have been put in a position to allow our men and women to die like this. We are stuck there and most likely will be for some time. What has been done by removing the “greater evil” is allow the opportunity for the many “lesser evils” to try and rise up. What was easier to deal with, one semi-controllable person, or many uncontrollable people?

Now at this point you may be thinking that I am all for Sen. Kerry. No, I really don't care for him either. But we have to look at what is best for our future and I think that President Bush is not the answer. People stick to too many small issues on Kerry going bank and forth with decisions. Well, isn't that what people do? You may think that the current way of doing something is the best, but then find out that it was not. You change your mind, thats what you do. Can he not do the same things?

Our current president is doing nothing but offering the same thing that has been going on for the past four years. I think that change is more important then anything and I hope that you think of this when you vote.

On another note, this has been a big issue in music. I can't think of another time that so many musicians were trying to speak out with their talents. [70's?]

One time that I can remember a lot of musicians speaking out was the early '80s. If you didn't have some political message then you weren't punk or even "alternative" as it came to be called. Reagan was a popular target and the Iran-Contra scandal provided a lot of fodder, as did many other actions.

I applaud you for stating your opinions without flaming someone.

Did you know that oil futures dropped in price $2/barrel today in the expectation that if Kerry wins that he will help stabalize the geo-political climate? It always amazes me what gets tied to an event such as an election. It is my sincerest hope that whoever wins this election, that it is by a substantial margin. I don't think that this country can take 4 more years (at least) of such division as we have seen over the last 4.

I myself will be voting for Kerry. Among my gripes against the current president is that he took the election that was decided by the slimist of margins and turned it into a mandate to do whatever he wanted. What was needed was a "uniter" to take charge, moderate policies and political appointees, and try to bring the Country back together. 911 ultimately did this, although the effect seems to be waning as well (that could also be due to the election though).

In voting, I have not always stuck to the democratic ticket. I look at the person who is in office and ask myself have they made things better for me? for the people who are disadvantaged? and have they made things better for the country as a whole? This has meant some Republican votes in some cases, independents in some, and democrats in some as well. In this case, from the local elected officials on up to the president, I can't say that they have made a positive impact on my life or the nation and they need to go. I think that some of this is due to the divisive outcome of the 2000 election, not that they are necessarily bad or incompitent. That election just drew very distinct lines in the sand that everyone still seems to be standing behind.

Thank you Sarge for posting your comments. I find that far too many people will opt to stay out of a conversation like this, thinking that they would be looked at differently.

np. I don't often state my political views, but the event tomorrow is too critical not to throw them out there, even if only a few people see them. Maybe it gets someone to think a little before they cast their ballot, and that is always a good thing.

Im not that political, I do not vote, I try to follow as much as I can, BUT I am a damn good judge of character. So heres my 2 cents for each canidate. And I will be flaming them. lol

From the first time I ever saw him, I can tell you that Bush dosent have a clue. Not just on presidential matters but in general. He seems like a guy that just goes along with what someone else tells him to do. If you took away his advisors and all his little helpers, put him in an Interview, He would be like a deer caught in some Headlights. He could be a great drinking buddy, the Laugh of the party, but in no way is he a Leader. Let alone the leader of America.

Kerry, though I know very little of the things he has done, He seems smart and confident. The one thing I know he said would make me vote for him. It was referring to bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, he roughly said..."I dont need a tax cut, I have money. The midlle/lower class are the ones who need this." Though it could have been a lie, He seemed sincere. Ive listned for the bad things hes done, but all the republican party keeps telling me is that hes a Flip Flopper. BIG DEAL. I change my mind alll the time. Hell its taken me 4 tries just to write this paragraph. lol

Also Im not sure where Kerry stands on Stem cell research, but Bush is highly against it, and that is highly stupid.

He is to "Moral" to support researching that could help millions, but finds it Ok to send fully grown kids to their death, so he can secure an Iraqi Oil Field.

Argue anyway you want, Those cells could help in alot of ways and one more Oil field wont make a bit of differance when you go get some gas. The price might not get higher, but it wont go lower. Once inflation sets in, It becomes the Normal price.<----Fact.

All I need to say is although I appear normal to some, I am at heart a hippie tree hugger.

When I lived in Massachusetts (the most liberal state) I was a republican. Being a lifelong hunter and fisherman, I have always voted based primarily on Environment, Gun laws, and anti censorship. I have never in my life fully agreed with the NRA. Again, growing up in Mass, I learned that even though we have the most rediculous gun laws on the books, I never had any troubles because I never broke the law. I never liked John Kerry. I still don't like John Kerry. Unfortunatly, I have never supported ONE thing George Bush has done. Right from the get go, I cannot support drilling in ANWR it's a stupid move for 10 barrles of oil. Even though I lost a friend on 911 I know better than to assume Iraq is somehow tied to that. There was no need to attack Iraq. I may have supported it down the line, but it was still too early. Stem cells, does anyone need to think to say stem cell research is one of the most important bits of research we may ever do? I heard the other day "Bush had said at every stump speech that 1.) Kerry is the most liberal politician in washington, 2.) Kerry Flip flops., I ask how can he be so liberal if he flip-flops? If our country was supposed to be tied to religion I would be able to support Bush imposing his religion on me, but since we are supposed to be free of that I can't stand for it.

In any case I hate both of them, I wouldn't want to be friends with either of them I wouldn't give either the time of day. But I can't in good conscience vote for Bush.

On important fact: The the next president may have the opportunity to appoint 4 maybe 5 to the Supre Court! This is really big!

On the question of Kerry being for or against stem cell research...

He is for it. [Thank god for that one!]

The stem cell thing is blown way out of proportion. Bush's decision was a compromise between both sides. IT was definitely not partisan as it sufficiently pissed both sides off. The limitations we have on stem cell research right now, are not enough to impede research any time soon. They are enough though to be politicized and used to tow a party line. It's pretty fucking frustrating, because 99.9% of the people out there are not informed about this issue, only the hype.

(I am a genetic engineer by the way, so yeah I know alot about stem cells)

Anyways, I kinda like Bush, but I don't like having a government controlled at all branches by one party, so I voted for Kerry, only for the reason that maybe we can gridlock the government enough so they cant get shit done.

WAIT! Did you say the bars dont open till after 7? HOLY SHIT. I was gonna get a beer after work and watch our country break into riots!....

Even if I wanted the branches of gov. to be different I would have never voted for kerry. Just vote dem on all the senate and reps seats. That way the GOP would lose control if that was the reason for the vote. I am sorry, I really do not like kerry and 90% of the stuff he stands for. Ephil knows how I feel on all the issues, since me Maggott and him along with a lot of co-workers blew off 2 hours of the day debating the issues. 🙂

I know where you're coming from Goose. The way I see it though, is that a republican congress with a dem president means lower spending. Kerry won't be able to get much anti-gun legislation through with them around.

Trust me, I have little/no respect for Kerry, but I don't think GW's economic policies are good enough for me to go with. Actually, I was mistaken. In Oklahoma you can get that water they refer to as Beer. 3.2 is legal, but anything else is off limits until later tonight. I know, I tried to get a Whiskey Sour on my 21st birthday (a voting day) and got denied. Had to settle for beer.

See, I am a tree hugger due to the fact I am a hunter. I believe in conservation. Conservation and environmentalism doesn't mean you can't cut a tree or shoot an animal. It means you need to keep things in balance. I have no problems with hunting or even foresting, just both need to be done correctly to preserve the future of the populations.

When you cut it down to a one sentence thing, I am more likely to be aligned with a treehugger, but I still laugh at their dumb asses when they chain themselves to a tree. I am an environmentalist but I am by no means a hippee (they're dirty)
