P.S. Even if your motherboard does not support PC3200 RAM it will work as long as it does support DDRAM. All RAM of the same tpye {.e. SDRAM DDRAM} is backwards compatible. So like my mobo only supports PC2100 but i can still use 3200 its just underclocked till i get a new mobo to support it fully.
Well ......... I really didn't want to say this ....... PC3200 DDR400 Ram will not run stably in anything but a DDR400 slot. I will run fine in most applications, but you may experience problems like, Oh I don't know, BF Vietnam crashing to desktop for no apparent reason. However, when you realize your mistake, and exchange the Ram for PC2700, your system will start running correctly.
You sure about that Blue? I bought some PC133 Ram for a PC100 slot. I always heard that it was backwards compatible. I found out the hard way that not all ram is backwards compatible. You had to find PC133 ram that specified it could run at PC100.
I wonder if the ram you bought is the same way. Some 400 will cycle down, but not all 400 will do it.
Hmm i did ask on the extremeoverclockers couple weeks ago about it and the one guy that awnsered did say i could run PC3200 on my PC2100 board. /shrugs
Well, alot of sites say that PC3200 runs fine on PC2700 Slots. And like I said, It would run some things with no issue, Like Doom 3. But everytime I ran BFV I could get about 10 min and then CTD if not a reboot. City of Heroes would also occasionally Crash out. But if you look around on the web, you will see lots of people who are having "Random Reboot" issues with PC3200 ram in PC2700 boards. And on the package, it specifically said that it was only for use in PC3200. But the PC2700 states that it is backwards compatible. So, do what you want, but don't be suprised if you run into issues with it.
It's a lot of my problem, that's for sure. I have 2 matching 512 sticks of DDR3800 400Mhz. The MB said it supported it, but the manual came out and said it's unstable, so I clocked it down to 333. I get RCTD's quite often, but it does seem to have subsided since I dropped down to one HDD on my craptastic 400W RAID MAX PowerSupply which actually clocks in so much lower than it's rated that I have to buy a new PowerSupply, just to power it.
see that is why you go and look at the reviews for a motherboard and stuff, then just buy everything they had for the test. have had no issues with mine. 🙂
