Recently, Slashdot had an article about a project to take EVDO Verizon Cellular Internet, pump it through a home made router, then push it out as standard 802.11 wireless signal that could be used anywhere that could receive the Verizon signal.

I can not begin to tell you how awesome this project is. Not just for the sake of being able to access the Internet from anywhere in your car, but for a reason near and dear to my heart.... Internet Radio needs some sort of way to penetrate the car audio market and I believe we can take this project, build on it and actually build a working Internet Stream Audio system for cars. I shall call my project the Rockbox. All it takes is that first step.
This forum is dedicated to the EVDO Stompbox project. I encourage all who find this forum to discuss your thoughts, comments and to share any work you may have done on your own EVDO project.
It is going to take me some time to put all the money together and to build the project, but I really want to make this happen. I know it can be a reality, but I also understand the power of working together to make this happen. If you are interested in the EVDO project, please participate in this forum. If you are interested in my Rockbox, please participate in this forum. If you want to make your own Rockbox, feel free.
This is about moving Internet Radio into the last bastion of corporate radio control, your long ass commute to and from work......... Oh yea and having Internet everywhere you go is pretty freaking cool too.....
