My wife and I were talking the other day about how jaded we've become. After the last few posts, I started thinking, is it true? Have I become so jaded that everything just pisses me off?
Looking back at my own personal history, I've been a pissed off, angst driven person for some time, but in my 20's I was optimistic (naive?) about the future. Now at 35, I am no longer optimistic (no longer naive?).
I guess this means I am still angst driven and jaded as ever. I just happen to be less naive about all the shit going on around me..... :-)
ETA: Also, September 11th, 2001 - I'm surprised I forgot this, as I have an additional, personal reason to remember that day, totally unrelated to terrorism. A two-for-one deal.
I think becoming jaded & cynical is a process, not an event, which is why the stereotype of the "mean old person" exists, IMHO. Old people have had more time to go through the process.
"April 29, 1992 (Miami)" is a song from the eponymous third album of Sublime. It is about the Los Angeles riots that ensued after the controversial Rodney King verdict.
The title of the song is the date of King's verdict, which led to the riots. However the opening lyric in the song is 'April 26th 1992/there was a riot on the streets/tell me where were you?'. The wrong date in the lyric can be explained as a mistake, but with Bradley Nowell's strong vocal performance on that cut, they decided to keep it.
I was living in the dorms at college my freshman year when it happened. My roommate and I stayed up all night long watching the riots on TV in disbelief. It was a rather tense time on campus, even in the middle of the country.....

I think I have always been jaded. I can remember being way too young and thinking rather pessimisstic thoughts. Not sure where it came from though.

I have always had a different perspective on the things that go on around me. I would have to say that the late '90s were the end of my naivete' as well. I have always seen where money will get you as opposed to hard work and honesty.
So I'm a crochety old bitch... And I like it!!! LOL 😈
