I got some really good snacks.

I broke down and purchased a HD Tivo as a present from my wife.... :-)

Boy... maybe I am sorry I asked...

I will refrain from posting my xmas then.

Bubba just told me what he got (the bastard), along with a Christmas day at the parents story that had me rolling. I encourage him to share with the rest of you so that you all can be green with envy as well 😀

Well,

My inlaws got me a DVD Burner and 2Gb of ram bumping me to 4Gb

My parents got me a new 320Gb Hdd with 16Mb cache, a Havoc Heli toy copter

My wife bought me Fugazi, Ruts and Misfits CDs

WoW! Very cool!

The amazing part is they thought to buy you anything like that. Certain members of my wife's family think it's a sin to buy anything electronic. So, I get that nice personable present, Pajama's.

I will give my parents credit though. They know they can't figure out what it is I want, much less figure out how to buy it, so they just give me the money and tell me to go it. :-)

See I have the benefit of a wife who used to do tech work... she becomes the ring leader.

hmmm let's see.. well, I got chocolates and a bit of cash from my parents.

Some new smokin Harley boots. Oh and I got this new video card... I guess it will work, it's an Nvidia 8800 GT OC. I really hope it will run my TF2. 🎉

Nice card. I came that close to buying one, but opted for the 8600GTS instead.

my pre-christmas/christmas gifts were a library chair, comfy as can be formal leather chair.. a finished matte job done by yours truly for my 100" projector screen [~50$] and a convincing job of getting the Onkyo HT-SR800 to complete the setup.. of course the electronics got in the way so managed to get the reletives to get me an RF/IR remote for the electronics put behind the couch with the projector.. and all is well in my movie/console world.

Oh and that is about it.. got the BluRay Discovery Earth and some kitchen knives and a shirt.

Did I mention all is well in my little living room now.. after I finish hiding the speaker wires that is.

Ok, Silent wins.... I'm going home now..... 😛

Nice setup.... What projector do you have? My plans are to buy a projector if I ever buy another TV.

We managed to grab a BenQ PB8230 as it had the highest lumens, contrast ratio and picture for the time.. (circa '03) and the price was right as it was just being discontinued from the manufacturer as BenQ seems to only make items that are new and when they have been improved on they stop with the old and go with the new.

Nowadays the lumen count has skyrocketed in ratio to the prices.. the only bad part is the 8230 was replaced with a version that had DVI instead of just a VGA so the PS3 will not upscale. Ahh well, Blu-ray still comes through on the component cables and everything is pretty and sounds nice with the optic cable..

Just pay attention to contrast ratio and get the highest lumens you can.. benefits rise when you can watch the projector even with the windows open and still have a viewable picture. Every room is a benefit then. Also check the price on replacement lamps, some are known to blow quickly whereas mine has lasted a bit over 2 years per bulb.. this being the second bulb and almost out of its second with the first still available as a just in case.

As far as your screen.. I doubt I could fit this beast in a box to ship.. I could point you to the Ebay seller that sell that screen material for cheap.. real cheap. The border is just some Krylon Ultra Flat Black Paint on some Trim-board/Picture Frame style and a few 1x4 back braces.. a short job indeed. And mighty good looking from afar and not to bad from aclose.

What? No Black Velvet Covered Wood? BLAH!

I'll keep that in mind if I ever get a chance to buy a projector.....

We actually looked at the black velvet option.. not as attractive as we have left the 70s.. and the picture frame allows it to double as 'art' also it seems some think it is even more effective.

black velvet 🤣 If only you guys could have seen the bar that was in the basement of my house when we moved in. I have since torn it out, but it was a monument to the '60s and 70's complete with a red shag carpet and orange Formica counters....
