It seems that $25 2-pack of Energizer rechargeable D-cell batteries are really AA batteries in a plastic shell. Interestingly(and unsurprisingly), a 2-pack of Energizer double-A's cost about $6. If you have some of their D-cells, and wonder why you don't get much battery life from them, now you know.

If you read the second page of the article, it goes on to say that Powerex rechargeable batteries are a good value, though he goes on to say that he sells them, so be aware of a self-interest angle. There is an obsessive rechargeable battery subculture out there. If you are interested, plug some search terms into Google and prepare to be bombarded with much battery and charger info.
