List analyzes rock star death causes, lifetime

Ever wondered what the leading causes of death for popular musicians were? Or how their average age at death compares to that of your normal joe? Well, this rather morbid list breaks down an average age comparison at time of death, the leading causes (in specific figures) for famous musician deaths, and lists the musicians in a chart chronicling their name, age at death and cause of death.

Amongst those listed are Raybeez (Warzone), Cliff Burton (Metallica), Joey Ramone, Bon Scott (AC/DC), Jason Thirsk (Pennywise) and many more. Interestingly, suicide and drug overdose were not the leading causes, based on the list’s research of 321 deaths. You can check out the entire list here.

Mike Park posts his version of Operation Ivy’s “The Crowd”

Mike Park has released a cover of the Operation Ivy classic, "Crowd." Mike explained:

Well, actually it's an old song. Years ago, I got asked to contribute a song for an Operation Ivy tribute record for a Japanese record label. Earlier today I was organizing the basement at work and came upon a copy of the song. It had been so long since I listened, so I threw it in the cd player and GEEZ is that really me singing such gruff punk vocals. Ouch, that's got to hurt the vocal chords.

But anyways, I like this a lot. I had forgotten this even existed, so I thought I'd share it with you. Feel free to download and share with friends. Hope you enjoy.

You can check out "The Crowd" on his myspace page.

Mike released his last solo album, North Hangook Falling in 2005.

Underoath side project recruits Jeremy Enigk (SDRE), joins Warped

The Almost, the rock-focused side project which features Aaron Gillespie of Underoath recently revealed some information about their forthcoming debut.

Notably, Gillespie was able to enlist the services of Jeremy Enigk, the vocalist from both Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft, and most recently his own solo project which released World Waits. Enigk will also soon join Brand New for their upcoming UK tour.

As for the record itself, Aaron explained the sound and need for a side project:

I wrote all the songs last year when Underoath was in the studio doing ‘Define the Great Line,’ I’d do all the drums, then have a three-week to a month lull between doing drums and singing. I got so bored, so I wrote these 11 songs.

I wouldn’t try to put something like this on an Underoath record because it doesn’t really fit that niche. It’s just rock tunes — pretty structured rock tunes, which doesn’t really work for Underoath, because Underoath is an unstructured/moment kind of thing. This is more Foo Fighters-esque.

Besides Enigk, Aaron has also enlisted Starting Line’s Kenny Vasoli to contribute bass The record, titled Southern Weather is due out April 3rd. The band will also be supporting the album on this summers Warped Tour.

CBS and TiVo advertising Deal

CBS LogoWhile many TV companies are attacking new technology and seeing it as a threat, CBS seems to be one company that is beginning to stand out as making the most out of new technology for promotion.

CBS recently received press coverage for signing a deal with YouTube to allow some of its content to be legally shown on YouTube. CBS was subsequently happy with the increased promotion for its shows.

Now CBS has cut a deal with TiVo to actually encourage TiVo users to record its shows. That’s pretty extreme considering most TV networks cringe at the idea of having their programs recorded and the adverts skipped.

From February 6th TiVo will embed interactive tags for two weeks to encourage TiVo users to record CBS’ entire new Monday-night lineup. In addition to this TiVo users can view sneak previews of new CBS comedy Rules of Engagement and crime drama Criminal Minds.

Xbox 360 IPTV Interview – PVR functions on the way

Xbox 360GameVideos has an excellent interview on video (see below) with the two Microsoft execs Chris Satchell and Albert Penello, talking about IPTV on the Xbox360.

The Xbox 360 IPTV service is not going to be something like getting YouTube videos on your PC but a service that is more familiar to the cable and satellite TV services that we have now.

Sarchell and Penello talk about downloadable movies, the Xbox 360’s channel guide and even the use of the Xbox 360 as a PVR (gotta love that one!). Although not confirmed directly the interview hints that a larger hard drive will also be offered to cater for the PVR functionality.

Part 1
of the video shown above and you can see part 2 here.

Car Radios with PVR functionality

CarWe’ve all got pretty used to using a PVR to time shift, fast forward and rewind TV but we’ve never really done it with radio. We’ve seen PVR radio functionality on PCs but the place where we really love to listen to radio is in our cars.

Now the European Space Agency (ESA) will be bringing PVR functionality to in-car radios. It will store recorded audio most likely on a solid state flash memory which can withstand the bumpy rides in your car, like when you might accidentally run over Celine Dion for example.

The ESA will be using a new satellite radio system that will require little changes to your car in order to receive it, while also allowing for PVR functionality. The satellite radio system will differ from existing satellite systems in that it will be a lot cheaper.

But would anyone actually use it? I’m not sure I would, especially in the days of podcasts.
