Cheap Sex: (2002-2007)

Cheap Sex Cheap Sex has announced that they are breaking up after the tragic death of their guitarist, Chris Wick. The band issued this statement from their Myspace profile:

On March 1 Cheap Sex lost somebody who was very important to us. Chris Wick our guitarist on our second album – ‘Headed For A Breakdown’ hung himself after struggling with heroin addiction for the past couple years after the death of his mother three years ago. Chris was a great friend and an absolutely amazing talent and will be forever missed.

The band feels like at this time we are at a crossroads with the loss Chris and our drummer Gabe in particular who was his best friend wants time to deal with Chris’s death. Therefore I am sad to say that Cheap Sex will be breaking up and we will be announcing a final show shortly.

The other members of the band are hoping to continue performing though under a new name with new material. They are asking interested drummers to get in touch with them.

The band released Written in Blood last year.

RIAA sues stroke victim in Michigan

In a move that is likely to demonstrate how you can be both right and very wrong at the same time, recording industry trade organization, RIAA has targeted a new lawsuit at John Paladuk, a paralyzed stroke victim who was living in Florida at the time of the alleged copyright infringement.

The lawsuit is being held in Michigan despite the fact that the accused is immobile and lives in Florida. The alledged infringement happened in Michigan, according to the RIAA. The move is the latest in a series of highly unsympathetic lawsuits launched by the RIAA, who previously launched suit against the children of a dead defendant.

Unfortunately, this lawsuit, like many others, is more likely to unite people against the RIAA rather than provoke the very necessary discussion about the effects of file sharing. Earlier this month, the group launched a automated settlement system and even mainstream entertainment has begun to criticize their methods.

Watch Tom Morello and Anti-Flag perform Woody Guthrie

The Nightwatchman Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello and Anti-Flag recently joined forces on stage to perform the entirety of Woody Guthrie’s famous – and often misunderstood – classic folk song, “This Land Is Your Land.” Morello and Anti-Flag previously worked together on their final Fat release, The Terror State.

As Morello explains, the song was originally a fierce protest song that protested class inequality and it was originally written in response to Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America.” Guthrie considered that song unrealistic and complacent.

Morello will soon release his first solo record under the name The Nightwatchman. The record is titled One Man Revolution and is due out April 27, 2007.
