PETA2 kicks off 2007 “Sexiest Vegetarian” contest with Matt Skiba, Dan Yemin, Davey Havok, Ian MacKa

PETA has announced the nominees for their third annual World’s Sexiest Vegetarian Poll. The charity had this to say:

Summer is almost upon us, and that can mean only one thing: It’s time for peta2’s third annual “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” poll! Yes, it’s time once again to cast your vote for the celebs you think are the hottest guys and gals in Hollywood-or anywhere else celebs are hanging out these days.

Could this finally be Davey Havok’s year? Or will Jared Leto or Milo Ventimiglia run away with the prize? And what about the ladies? Is it time for Anastasia Ashley to be crowned? Will Abbie Cornish steal the glory in her first year on the list? Or is Natalie Portman so utterly hot that she’ll win again? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The list includes Aaron Dalbec (Bane), Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy), Ari Katz (Lifetime), Armand Majidi (Sick of It All), Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), Benji Madden (Good Charlotte), Billy Hamilton (Silverstein), Billy Martin (Good Charlotte), Brandon Barnes (Rise Against), Brennan Chaulk (Haste the Day), Brian Bell (Weezer), Casey Calvert (Hawthorne Heights), Cedric Bixler-Zavala (The Mars Volta), Chicken (Western Addiction), Chris Hannah (Propagandhi), Chris Head (Anti-Flag), Chris McLane (Stretch Arm Strong), Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), Colin Frangicetto (Circa Survive), Colin Kercz (Most Precious Blood), Connor Lovat-Fraser (Boys Night Out), Dan Yemin (Paint It Black/Lifetime), Dave Aguilera (Bleed the Dream), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), Davey Havok (AFI/Blaqk Audio), Dennis Lyxzen (The (International) Noise Conspiracy), Drew Speziale (Circle Takes the Square) and many more.

Here for you as a final gift to anyone that cared about our failed label is a previously unreleased BLACK COUGAR SHOCK UNIT song, which they played on a few tours, but never recorded in the studio. Joel originally requested it was put up for downloading, as it’s the only BCSU recording in existence with him on drums. It was recorded live at the NEWEST INDUSTRY FEST on September 18th, 2005 in Cardiff, UK. It’s called “Chairman Meow”…

Green Day’s Simpsons contribution to surface on score, digital release

Looks like there is an explanation for the curious omission of Green Day from the soundtrack to the Simpsons movie. Rather than slumming on the soundtrack album, the band will. in fact, be contributing what is described as a “punked up” version of the Simpsons theme, but it will instead appear on the movie’s “score” album.

On July 24, three days before the film opens in U.S. theaters, Warner Bros. Records will put out the Green Day single, Fox Music will make a digital score album available through its Web site and other outlets. And Extreme Music will release 25,000 pink doughnut cases to Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart and Barnes & Noble.

As for the band’s role in the movie, the awesome Hank Azaria, who voices numerous Simpsons characters including Moe Szyslak, adds:

I know that Moe yells out obnoxious stuff to Green Day while they’re performing. That I remember. He yells out stupid stuff to Green Day. (They don’t play) at Moe’s Tavern. They perform elsewhere in the movie; they’re outside. And the whole crowd turns on them.

Deftones working on next album, side-project prepare for second release

Deftones In a recent Billboard interview, experimental rock/metal band Deftones discussed plans for their next album. Frontman Chino Moreno discussed the bands interest in a more raw songwriting and recording process, which is in contrast to the band’s last effort, Saturday Night Wrist, which saw multiple producers come and go.

We’re going in there and playing as five of us in the room with just our instruments, no other distractions. That’s how we started out, basically, when we first started the band — us in the garage, no ProTools or anything to get us ahead of ourselves. We’d just play things over and over again, until we remembered it — that’s the rawest way you can do it, and the best, I think.

In related news, Moreno’s side-project, Team Sleep, have nearly completed their second album, which is planned for release in early 2008.
