Tours: Comadre post new song and summer tour dates

The scamps in Comadre are heading out on a summer tour with fellow persons of interest Graf Orlock this summer.

The band has also posted two new songs on their MySpace page. “Camel Bucks” is one of five songs off of their upcoming split album with Trainwreck from Germany, due out in time for the summer tour. The CD will be out on Bloodtown Records while the 12inch will be out on React With Protest and Heart on Fire Records. “Blackland Dirt” comes from their last full length, Burn Your Bones.

Astute readers may remember that the last time Graf Orlock and Comadre went out together they got arrested for “looking punk” in Denmark. Let’s hope they fair a bit better this time.

The Ratchets part ways with drummer, seek replacement

The Ratchets are back from tour, but return less a drummer. The band posted the following to their website:

Hello! Hello! Ahh…back from tour and settling back into things over here at Camp Ratchet. Our little jaunt out was quite pleasant. The Hold Steady surely did not disappoint and were quite friendly and gracious to boot, lending us their drums and amps because our van broke down on our way out of town. It was also great spending some quality time with old friends the River City Rebels. The Worthless United reunion and opening night of Chunksaah‘s Asbury Park Punk Night Takeover went off without a hitch. And then…trouble. We have parted ways with Erik, our drummer, and have been figuring out what the plan is. Well, we figured it out…get a new drummer. So…The Ratchets are looking for a young, powerful, and dynamic drummer. No jazz, no funk, no laid back! Drop us a line if you think you’ve got the chops.

Granted the band didn’t add all those fancy links, but we’ll give them the credit anyways. We’re good like that. The Ratchets did however release the full length Glory Bound earlier this year.

The Bled complete new album

The Bled The Bled has finished recording their new release entitled Silent Treatment. The album will feature 11 new songs and is expected to be released in the fall. The band had this to say about the release:

I’m not gonna barage you with a bunch of adjectives and cliche descriptions of what it sounds like, but just know that we are more confident and excited to be in this band now because of this record. There was a time that I wasn’t sure if we knew how to write this kind of music anymore, but once we got started what came out was so natural and raw that we have been reinvigorated as friends and as artists. We are very proud and hope that you guys get into it as much as we are.

The bans will embark on the Projekt Revolution tour next month alongside My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday.

City of Glasgow “cancels” show flyers

The city council of Glasgow, Scotland has escalated a fight against illegal show flyers in a most mischievous way. Paid city workers are placing large stickers reading “Cancelled” across posters hung in prohibited areas. They’ve also taken to painting over the ads until they can be properly removed. An article in the Evening Times quotes a council source who commented, “We can be a complete pain in the neck to the people doing this because the money and time they spend is completely wasted. And there’s no point getting in a designer to produce a fancy poster when it will soon be a mess that doesn’t tell anyone anything.”

The article claims that some “rogue promoters” have been inundated with complaints from potential show goers thinking that gigs have been cancelled. Check the linked article for more on this. (Photo by Jamie Simpson)

The Deadly Snakes’ Andre Ethier to sing the Canadian anthem at Dodger Stadium

This Saturday Andre Ethier, one of the frontmen of the genre-bending Toronto garage punk’n’soul act the Deadly Snakes will be singing the Canadian national anthem at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

CBC Radio 3 reveals the reason for the somewhat surreal job assignment. The Los Angeles Dodgers have another Andre Ethier in their employ, although he’s more of a right fielder and less of a rock musician. When a member of the Dodgers organization discovered the Deadly Snakes singer via a web search the invitation was made to unite the Andre Ethiers of the world at the game. Naturally, the Dodgers will be playing the Toronto Blue Jays.

Lead Radio 3 personality Grant Lawrence (singer for the Smugglers) interviewed Andre about the request. You can check that out here. The Deadly Snakes released their swan song Porcella in 2005. Ethier’s second solo album secondathallum hit last year.

Ferret Records sign Full Blown Chaos

Ferret Records has announced the signing of New York hardcore act Full Blown Chaos. Vocalist Ray Mazzola had this to say about the signing:

We spoke to a lot of labels and a lot of big players made offers but no band on Ferret we’ve known has had bad dealings or picked up and left on bad terms, there’s a lot to say about that. We needed a label that is going to work as hard as us, you can only go so far if your team doesn’t put as much into your band as you do and we feel we have that with Ferret.

The band is already set to release their Ferret debut, Heavy Lies the Crown, this August.
