Hopesfall undergo lineup changes

Hopesfall Hopesfall vocalist Jay has announced via MySpace that the band recently dealt with line-up changes:

Some of you have been inquiring why we haven’t been touring as of late. For the past few months we’ve made a major lineup change to tour our latest release “Magnetic North”. After recording the new album a lack of desire to be on the road to support “Mag North” became apparent. We are all very proud of our accomplishments with this record. In assembling a new lineup my hopes are that we generate interest in a) the music my former band-mates and I created “Mag North” and b) the new material my current band-mates and I have begun to write. We have some exciting tours lined up including ventures w/ the junior varsity, the receiving end of sirens, and oceansize to name a few.

The band released Magnetic North in May.

Social Distortion talks new album

Social Distortion Social Distortion‘s Mike Ness recently spoke to Billboard about the band’s next studio record and follow up to 2004’s Sex, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll.

Ness talked a little about the recent Greatest Hits release and the new track, “Far Behind” which closes it out:

We were in between studio albums, we’re writing, and we thought it was a good time to pause and take a retrospective look at the band’s career, And we also wanted to let people know that we weren’t going anywhere and hit ’em with maybe an indication of what the next record might sound like.

He also offered some more details about the next album:

We have a dozen ideas at least — a lot of songs that didn’t make the last record. They didn’t make it not necessarily because they weren’t good enough. I have demos from 1994 that I’m revisiting — great ideas that didn’t get finished. You know, maybe they needed a better chorus or something. Also, I just want to create some new stuff entirely.

The creative vibe is just very charged right now. With every album, I want to outdo the last one. That’s my goal going in: I want to make it better than the last one.

Next year, the band will celebrate their 30th anniversary, having formed in 1978.

The Onion AV Club talks to Tom Gabel

Tom Gabel, frontman of Against Me! recently spoke to The Onion’s serious music faction, The Onion AV Club

The common interview points including selling out and label pressure are touched upon, but the interviewer actually digs a little deeper, discussing some of the differences of being on a major label. To whit, Tom notes:

I think it’s unfortunate that the majority of kids today don’t know any of those bands or don’t realize they were on that label. We have people who have asked us in the past why we signed to Sire, and one of the reasons was definitely because of its history. The Ramones were on Sire, The Replacements were on Sire, The Smiths were on Sire, The Cure was on Sire, Madonna was on Sire.

Tom also addresses the underground v.mainstream mentality, providing this insight:

When bands come from that underground scene and go into the mainstream, people just hate it. And it blows my mind. If you’re saying you don’t like what pop culture is, then change it. And when someone does make an effort to change it, everyone rebels against it and hates it. You can’t win. People just want that division to exist. They don’t want that division to go away.

Against Me! released New Wave this month.

He (the reporter) went to the House minority leader in the States (a Republican), who tried to have me deported, trying to say I’m threatening the president.”
