Dillinger Escape Plan talk about drummer departure

Dillinger Escape Plan have made a statement about the recent departure of drummer Chris Pennie. They spoke with MTV, saying:

We found out about him playing with Coheed on the Internet. We were questioning keeping him in the band every day because it was embarrassing. But obviously, we felt that his talent was so needed for the band that we tried to make it work, and we let him go through this little midlife crisis or whatever it was, because we never thought he’d join that band over this band. It doesn’t make sense.

The funny thing is, before all of this started going down, he used to make fun of that band, left and right. He’d imitate [Coheed & Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez’s] voice and would say, ‘They fucking suck’ and all this shit.

When Chris hears our record, he’s going to feel like a real asshole, He blew it. This guy Gil [Sharone, the DEP’s new drummer] we have playing on this, his drumming is unbelievable on this record. Some of the best drumming we’ve ever had on any of our records. And now, Gil is going to be known as the guy for this kind of thing.

The band will be releasing Ire Works this fall.

TIm McIlrith of Rise Against lists five things wrong with America, besides you

Tim McIlrith of Rise Against recently produced a list of five things wrong with America.

Among the problems: “Meat Is Murder”:

America’s obsession with torturing animals, injecting them with hormones, brutally slaughtering them, establishing acceptable amounts of feces and then not only eating it ourselves but then teaching our children that this is “the way things are,” just like our parents taught us — bon appetit!

He also saves something for the Minutemen, but not those Minutemen:

If you patrol the border of Mexico in your pickup truck with your buddies, some dogs and a rifle, you are a racist and you are looking for an excuse to use your gun rack. Stop pretending you aren’t.

You can find the rest of the list here.

It also appears that Fender is producing a second replica as well, a with more exact reproduction’s of Joe’s own art, via their Custom Shop

So what do you think? Hero worship or cash in? Turning rebellion into money?

Bad Religion talks about politics, other plans for “New Maps of Hell”

Bad Religion recently spoke to Billboard about their freshly released new album, New Maps of Hell. Guitarist, songwriter and co-founder Brett Gurewitz explains that the track “New Dark Ages” was “inspired by the pervasive anti-intellectualism in the U.S., which I guess is personified by the kind of macho religious-ity of George Bush.

He goes on to explain:

If anything, it’s given a touch of sadness and a touch of resignation to our reflectiveness as a band. I think maybe now, while we’re moving toward the end of Bush’s term — and having all the wreckage that he’s created to deal with in his aftermath — it’s made us more sad than angry.

Don’t forget, we did a split 7-inch with [activist] Noam Chomsky protesting the first Gulf War, and now we find ourselves back in war,” he adds. “It really almost makes you feel hopeless, like that nothing ever changes — or that things change, but only for the worse.

Brett also revealed that he hoped the record would be a double-disc album, saying:

I had this sort of grand plan for a really interesting record where we would use different kinds of recording techniques,” he says. That included “going back to our old style, and actually doing some real garage-y, eight-track stuff like we did in the old days and then mixing that in with modern recording techniques, and having — dare I say — a punk-rock ‘White Album’ kind of thing — a sonically inconsistent record.

I Would Set Myself On Fire For You (2001-2007)

I Would Set Myself on Fire for You Atlanta’s I Would Set Myself on Fire for You has announced that they’ve broken up:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that as of July 2007 we are no longer a band. It has been an honor and a privilege to be able to do what we love for so long. You will never know how much we love and appreciate every person that has set up a show, let us sleep on their floor, said kind words to us and supported us in any way – you will be nestled softly in our hearts forever. We still have a 7″ that will (hopefully) be released in the near future. Again, thank you for everything.

The band’s last release was their 2006 full-length Believes in Patterns.
