Joey Cape acoustic album in the works for Bad Taste Records

Joey Cape of Lagwagon, Me First and The Gimme Gimmes, Bad Astronaut, Afterburner and the recently announced Dead Penguin has yet another release in the works. A recent blog posting revealed:

Recently I decided to make a new acoustic album for the Swedish label Bad Taste Records. I have thought about this a lot and I realized I’m still attracted to the idea of a record with packaging, something people can hold in their hands. The days of these sort of releases are clearly nearing an end, so I just want to have one full-length acoustic release on my list of achievements. Because of this, I will not be posting everything I record for download. Out of respect for Bad Taste Records I will have to hold on to the recordings, although I can still post other stuff for download, hopefully of some interest to those who visit the site, www.myspace.com/joeycape. The album is tentatively set for release in April 2008. I am planning to support the release with a series of acoustic tours beginning in Europe in April. I have to admit, I am terrified, but it is something I have always wanted to do.

G7 collects Head Hits Concrete (ex-Swallowing Shit) discography

Winnipeg’s G7 Welcoming Committee is making good on their transition to a purely digital label with new signings and four new releases due this summer. We’re taking a look at each new band on the roster, rounding out the trio with Head Hits Concrete.

Head Hits Concrete arose from the ashes of Swallowing Shit. The Winnipeg band was together for five years before splitting in 2004. The G7 has collected the group’s entire recorded output on one digital record called Thy Kingdom Come Undone (+9)”. The label describes the band as similar to Gasp, Stretchheads and Dillinger Escape Plan’s Calculating Infinity era. With the band apart, members are currently playing in Kursk, Putrescence, Big Trouble In Little China, Human Garbage and Archagathus.

You can download the track “Apparatus” now and check the label for art and the track listing.

G7 to release compilation of Jamaica Plain releases

Winnipeg’s G7 Welcoming Committee is making good on their transition to a purely digital label with new signings and four new releases due this summer. We’re taking a look at each new band on the roster, so let’s talk Jamaica Plain.

Jamaica Plain is the brainchild Chris Pastor, named for his hometown of Jamaica Plain, MA. The synth pop band is described by the label as “Pet Shop Boys meets a guy completely at the end of his rope.” The act carries an endorsement from none other than Howard Zinn, whom the label’s press quotes with stating the band is “a fine example of combining intelligent social criticism with graceful musical style.”

On August 28th the label will release King of Hearts, a 10 track compilation of the past releases Letters to the Leader and Blue in the Face. You can check out the song “King Of Hearts” now and find the full artwork and track listing at the G7.

G7 signs the Rebel Spell for upcoming digital releases

Winnipeg’s G7 Welcoming Committee is making good on their transition to a purely digital label with new signings and four new releases due this summer. Over the next hour we’ll take a look at each new band on the roster, first up is The Rebel Spell.

The G7l has pointed out that while they’re often considered a punk label, the East Vancouver based band marks their first “punk” signing in some time:

It has been a very, very, very long time since a punk band has reached through the speakers and made me believe something was going on beyond the requisite and obvious elements that make one stop and listen to a “good” punk band. Something is going on here. It’s not something you can try to put your finger on without sounding like an ass, but I’m not being glib when I say that I feel something unusual and important will come of this seemingly conventional street-punk band.

The label will digitally release the Rebel Spell’s 2005 full length Days of Rage and a new EP titled Four Songs About Freedom on August 28th. You can check out MP3s of “They Know” from the new EP and “December 8th, 1980” from the full length. Artwork and track listings for both releases can be found at the G7.
