Greg Hetson of Bad Religion appears on Jim Rome Show

Greg Hetson, guitarist of Bad Religion and Circle Jerks recently appeared on the syndicated radio program, The Jim Rome Show. Greg discusses Bad Religion’s latest album, New Maps of Hell as welll as what it’s like to be in his 40s and still a punk rocker. He also takes some time to talk about the Warped Tour and his distaste for bubble gum/pop-punk bands.

The interview is archived online, and you can check it out here.

The Vacancy: “Jailbait,” “Anything Anything” & “Bass Song”

The Vacancy have posted streams of three new songs, all presumably being demos. You can check out “Jailbait,” “Anything Anything” and “Bass Song” at the band’s MySpace page.

No new release information was divulged, but the band’s MySpace — and for now, functional website — still lists the band as belonging to A-F Records, who released their last album, 2005’s Heart Attack.

The Decemberists announce tour, new EP

The Decemberists have announced dates for a full U.S. tour as well as a remix EP that will be released.

As far as the tour goes, it will span over a month long and find the band playing at least two dates in each city they hit. The band is promising two “totally different” set lists for each night within a city’s stop — the first night will be themed “The Long of It” and find the band performing every one of their songs that span longer than eight minutes; the second night, “The Short of It,” will find the band playing a set list “entirely built of those more sprightly numbers whose adherence to brevity keeps them on the more radio-friendly side of that selfsame 8 minute mark.”

The EP will be titled The Perfecter Crime and encompass a collection of remixes of the song “The Perfect Crime #2,” and will be released September 25th in two formats: 12″ vinyl and digital download. It’ll feature remixes by the likes of Diplo, Junior Boys and Touch of Class, as well as a radio edit of the track.

The band has some television-related goings-on as well. Their performance on Austin City Limits will be airing on October 13th on PBS, and they’ve recently recorded a new version of the song “Little Boxes” for an as-yet-undisclosed episode of the Showtime series “Weeds,” which would premiere in October.

Their Capitol debut, The Crane Wife, was released last year.

The Inquirer Recommends Avoiding Bioshock

like the plague and we at Gamers Radio completely agree. We were excited by the originality this game presented, but due to DRM and conflicting reports about a possible Rootkit being installed, we have taken a 180.

From the Inquirer , "The problems stem from SecuROM, a DRM infection of unconscionable proportions, brought to you by the good people of Sony, again. 2KGames took the anti-user step of hurting paying customers with this malware in order to prevent piracy, but if you don't want to end up with a system filled with unremovable malformed registry keys and an uninstallable coaster, your only recourse is to pirate it."

"If the whole screwing of the consumer in this was wasn't evil enough, they managed to lower the standard yet again. SecuROM will hose you if you run AVG antivirus like I do…." and as do I. Since I installed the demo before all of this was brought to the light, I have had a lot of strange problems occur on my system, including AVG. I can not say if they are related, but I do know they didn't start until I installed the demo.

It is a shame that Take2 would do something so irresponsible in a single player game. When will these companies learn the only people they hurt are their customers and their bottom line because of the additional costs involved in supporting the people who bought their game. And for the record, the hacked warez version of Bioshock is already available. Again proving the only thing DRM does is hurt the people who actually pay you. Good going Take2. I will add you to my list of companies to avoid in the future.

MP3 of the Week: Halfway to Hell Club / The Sadies

Brian: Here’s one of Long Island’s freshest faces playing seriously fresh tunes. Halfway to Hell Club takes the best of gruff yet melodic post-hardcore (Hot Water Music, Embrace) to write potent, affecting material. Stream “Kitchen Window” at the band’s MySpace page. It’s from their debut EP, Knowledge Is a Curse, which should be self-released eventually.

Adam: While I’ve gotten very good at justifying the inclusion of off-genre bands in our news coverage, I’ll concede this time and keep my personal preferences here in the safe confines of the Editors Picks. If you’ve followed the Canadian independent music scene at all (or spun a recent Neko Case record) then you know all about alt-country / garage / indie / surf / vintage rock act the Sadies. The band’s following up last year’s incredible double live album and 2004’s stellar Favourite Colours with a new record this fall titled New Seasons. It hits on September 18th in Canada via Outside Music and later on October 2nd in the US via Yep Roc. The latter label has the entire new record streaming online now.
