Rolling Stone investigates the FSU and James Morrison murder
One of Rolling Stone‘s reporters decided to look into the FSU and the murder of James Morrison which took place in January of this year. In the ensuing weeks, rumours of FSU involvement and speculation about racial undercurrents caused much speculation about the nature of the crime and the motivations of the perpetrators. Most notably, it drew national attention to the infamous hardcore “crew,” the FSU.
The article, titled Punk Rock Fight Club: The Gang Behind the Mosh-Pit Killings was written by Mark Binelli and runs nine pages in the magazine. Unfortunately, the article itself is not available online, but a 3 minute, narrated “slideshow” does discuss some of the more pertinent issues. Also mentioned are some of the other crews as well as the controversial Boston Beatdown series.
You can find that here.

Ben Lee Covers Against Me ‘New Wave’
It seems some people really love Against Me!‘s major label debut, New Wave. One fan was so impressed with the album that he recorded an acoustic version of the entire album. Now, this particular fan was Australian acoustic troubadour Ben Lee (That Ben Lee) and he explained why he would take on such an unusual project:
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded the new “Against Me!” album “New Wave”. I didnt really know too much about this band but had been reading lots of good things about it, and my friend Tegan sings on it.
fell in love with the album. Really. Like, couldn’t stop listening to it. As heavy and gnarly as it sounds at times, it is unmistakably a pop masterpiece. Listening to it on the way to Australia, I wondered to myself how these songs would sound acoustically.
A couple of days later I was on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne and had the thought “I’d love to cover this album.” The whole thing. Beginning to end. So I did. Anyway, here are the results. If you already know the original album, I hope these recordings shed a different light on it. I
A stream of each cover can be found here or you can download the entire thing right here.

Ambulette (2004-2007)
Ambulette has split up. The band cancelled a recent tour due to a personal emergency in the life vocalist of Maura Davis (formerly of Denali, currently also in Glös) which saw the remaining members will begin performing as drummer Ryan Rapsys’ other project, Euphone:
We are sad today to announce that we will no longer continue on as Ambulette. At least for now. We have faced many obstacles as a band and have just decided that it’s time to move on to other endeavors. It has not been easy for us to get anything done based on our label situations and it just isn’t much fun anymore.
When your band is 90% business and 10% music it’s time to try something else. When and if we ever actually fully get the rights to the record we made, we will find a way to make it available to the handful of you that have been waiting for so long. If that takes too long we’ll just put it up somewhere and you can take it.
Ambulette released The Lottery EP.
