The 30th Anniversary Of Punk as documented by Time

Time Magazine has put together a very interesting history of punk rock. The multimedia presentation celebrates the 30th Anniversary of punk rock, which many people agree really took off in 1977 with the releases of Never Mind the Bollocks, The Clash and Leave Home.

In its brief running time, it’s very thorough, taking note of most figures including the aforementioned, as well as Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. There are some potentially controversial omissions (Damned Damned Damned earns no mention despite it’s significance to that early era).

You can check out the entire video here.

The Futureheads promise “more Punk Rock spirit” on LP3

The Futureheads are wrapping up work on their as-yet-untitled third album and follow up to 2006’s News and Tributes. The band recorded for three weeks in Andalusia, Spain with producer Martin “Youth” Glover. Guitarist Ross Millard commented that unlike their restrained sophomore full length “there’s much more Punk Rock spirit in the new stuff.” Furthermore:

It was our best recording experience yet because it was the first one that hasn’t involved any kind of nervous breakdown/exhaustion/bleak-yorkshire-farmhouse-in-the-middle-of-winter! The energy is back, and the songs are tighter, faster and, dare I say it, a bit more playful than before.

We’ve changed the way we write a little bit – I’ve been writing songs for Barry to sing, which he’s taken to like Ol’ Blue Eyes himself – Dave’s got some riffs in there, Jaff’s realized his dream of becoming the ultimate back-up singer – it’s all going well so far!

The new album is expected in early 2008.
