The Holy Mountain (2002-2007)

Tampa’s The Holy Mountain is calling it quits after five years. The hardcore / thrash act was quite prolific, releasing an album nearly yearly along with numerous EPs and 7 inch records. The band’s No Idea releases included Bloodstains Across Your Face In Decline, Entrails and most recently 2006’s Enemies.

In regards to their planned upcoming releases the band’s commented:

The split 5″ with Deathcycle has a cover and is about finished. Ask Nate at Gloom Records about that shit and when it might arrive.

Jeremy Clark is working on the new cover for the Cave Canem split 7″ on Alerta Antifascista and should have it done within a week or so. Everything else is ready to go for that one.

The Cobra Noir split 7″? We sent that recording off last October, I think. Last we heard, some guy that did the last Neurosis cover was doing the art and that is what they were waiting on. Sure. Contact Cyclop Media about the gathering of dust on that project.

And lastly, the split 7″ with Asshole Parade. Probably never going to come out. We may give up on them and release it as a one sided 7″ with an etched b-side, limited to about 47 copies after we destroy most of the pressing to make the remaining copies more rare. We may also put the word ISIS on the cover and the word Hydrahead on the back. Pre-orders available summer 2012.

Suburban Home to release Playing Favorites (Joey Cape) album

Joey CapeVirgil and his band of troublemakers at Suburban Home will be releasing the debut album from the Playing Favorites. Formerly known as Dead Penguin, the band is the newest project from Joey Cape and features four of his closest friends. He’s been trickling out samples of the new music in the past few months.

The as-yet-untitled album will be mixed by Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room and is hoped to be released before the end of the year. Joey is also releasing an acoustic album via Bad Taste Records in Sweden.

Of course, fans know Cape from the nigh-seminal punk outfit Lagwagon as well as the more experimental Bad Astronaut, who released their final album this past year.

The Braves (2002-2007)

The Braves, which features ex-members of Gods Reflex and the Evergreen Trio, are calling it quits. The band posted the following info via their MySpace page:

As you can see, August 31st will be our last show as The Braves. This maybe should have happened a while ago, but the timing is right now, for various reasons. And as a way to tie everything up, we’ll be playing Love & Mercy in its entirety, as a five piece again with Phil. We’ll also be having a bargain blowout spring cleaning of sorts, and hopefully get rid of our remaining cd’s, record, and shirts. There may also be a DVD if we can cobble it together in time.

So thank you everyone who has supported us during the past 5 years, and we’ll have a new project sometime soon, so please check back. I want to give special thanks to Marc Ruvolo, Mike Gibson, Brian Lodis, Gina Ross, Rob Vester, Erin Balek, and all of the rest of our close friends and family who have helped us out any time we needed it.

The band last released Love & Mercy in 2005 via Johann’s Face.

Also, and confusingly, these are not the same Braves that recently signed to Pinky Ring Records. Those are from Brooklyn, these are from Rockford, IL.
