Cartel talks about life “outside the bubble”; wanted “Jackass” not “Real World”
With their plans to record their major label debut in a transparent bubble and aired on TV creating furious debate, Cartel has done an interview with Billboard dicussing their feelings on the event.
According to frontman Will Pugh:
I think what we did was, we made the best decision we could, and should have made at the time, and it turned out fine, It wasn’t a failure by any means, but I think knowing what we know now, there would have been things we would have done differently or requested were different.
I think they tried to make us have all of this drama and all of these things that we’re just not, We told them we’re not a drama band. They wanted to turn it into ‘Real World’ rather than ‘Jackass.’ We told them ‘Jackass’ is way more popular and funnier than the ‘Real World’ could ever be. I think if we’d known that from the beginning, we’d told them to go fuck themselves pretty quick.
The record is titled Cartel and is due out August 21, 2007. It is the follow-up to Chroma which was released in 2005.

Idiot Pilot: “Planted in the Dark” and “Retina and the Sky”
Idiot Pilot have posted two new songs from their upcoming sophomore full length. The record is titled Wolves and is due out August 21, 2007. The album was produced by Mark Hoppus of Blink-182/Plus-44 and features performances from Hoppus’s bandmate Travis Barker and the Dillinger Escape Plan’s Chris Pennie.

Crime in Stereo set title, release date; dates with Ambitions
Bridge 9 Records has set the release date for Crime in Stereo Is Dead, the third full-length from the apparently deceased band of the same name. The record is due out October 23rd.
The album follows up 2006’s The Troubled Stateside, which made enough of our “Best of 2006” year-end lists to garner an honorable mention on the site-wide list.
Also eventually due out is a split EP with Capital on Long Island’s State of Mind Recordings, which could be released by the end of the year as well.
The band also has a tour planned with labelmates Ambitions, as well as Colin of Arabia.

JR Ewing working on posthumous DVD
Gravity Records-style hardcore act JR Ewing have announced that work has begun on a posthumous DVD. The band, which took influence from the early screamo scene (think Heroin, not Silverstein) split up last year after eight years together.
The band posted this brief note:
The work on the JR Ewing film has begun. However, it´ll take a while though, since there are over 150 hours worth of tape.
The last show at Rockefeller the 21st of october was capured by 6 cameras and looks astounding. We also probably have hundreds of shows on tape from all over the world. And of course a bunch priceless silly stuff.
The band saw the US release of their 2005 album, Maelstrom in 2006.

Did Blizzard Out-Tolkien Turbine?
Blizzard announced their latest expansion for the hugely successful, World of Warcraft. This expansion, titled Wraith of the Lich King is set in a new continent called Northrend. At first glance, you may be asking what the hell am I talking about and why does this have anything to do with Turbines, Lord of the Rings Online?
Let’s take a look at a few items in the newly announced expansion.
1a. In Blizzards World of Warcraft, the new expansion is titled Wraith of the Lich King. The Lich King was once an Elder Shaman named Ner’zhul.
1b. In Turbines Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, one of the main characters is called the Witch-king of Angmar, also known as Lord of the Nazgûl. He happens to be the leader of the three Ringwraiths.
Take on it’s own, you may say that it is merely coincidence that they share similar words and that two of the words have very similar phonetics, even rhyming when said back to back. Try it, Ner’zhul – Nazgûl. Let’s take a look at another element, the location.
2a. In Blizzards World of Warcraft, the new lands are “Northrend is a frozen wasteland” (source: http://www.wowwiki.com/Northrend)
2b. According to wikipedia, “In the chapters in The Lord of the Rings describing Frodo and Sam’s journey in Mordor, the valleys in an area called the Morgai, on the land’s “outer marges […] under the westward mountains”, are described as a “dying land [but] not yet dead“.“ (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordor)
Ok, again we are making a stretch. Both lands are barren wastelands, although one is frozen and the other is ravaged by a volcano. However, it’s this last bit of evidence that really makes me wonder….
3a. Take a look at the webpage Blizzard put up for Wraith of the Lich King: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/index.xml
3b. Now take a look at the Witch-king on the left side of Turbines, Lord of the Rings Online Website: http://www.lotro.com/index.php
The thing that strikes me the most is the use of the full face crown wrapping around darkness where the face should be. Even more interesting is the stance that each character poses. In both cases, they are firmly holding the hilt of sword, pointing straight down. And the last interesting coincidence is the use of a flowing black cape, which anyone who has seen the Lord of the Rings movie knows is a major part of the Ringwraiths appearance.
Now please keep in mind, these are merely one mortals observations. I can not say either way whether there is indeed a coincidence or not. The storyline for the Frozen Throne and the opening of the Dark Portal previously set in motion the current story arc announced by Blizzard recently. The whole thing just strikes me as a bit odd.
The Hot Toddies: “Smell The Mitten”
Oakland’s Hot Toddies have sugary sweet melodies, even if sometimes their words are the kind of drrrty you’d like to hide from your parents. They’ll be releasing their Asian Man debut on September 11th and you can preview the whole thing here at the Org.
Check out tracks like “Anais Nin vs. The Pirates of Santa Cruz,” “Photosynthesis,” and “Ocean” for a taste of their sound. It mixes dance beats, sugary sweety melodies, simple acoustic strumming and a seriously quirky sense of humor.

The Jazz June schedule final reunion show
The Jazz June have scheduled a “final” reunion show on August 15th in Philadelphia. The band has been playing a string of reunion shows in support of their former roadie Adam Gerhart. The show will take place at the MRoom in Philadelphia on August 15th and is being billed as “the last time [the band] will play on the North American continent.”
The band has played a few reunion shows this year in support of Gerhart, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in October of 2006 and subsequently had the tumor removed. For more information on Adam’s condition as well as ways you can help, check out AdamFund.org.
The band originally formed in 1996 and released a number of records including 2001’s They Love Those Who Make The Music and their final record, 2002’s Better Off Without Air. You can check out an interview with the band, as performed by our friends at the defunct Punkrocks.net, right here.
