Recently reunited alternative/punk/new wave outfit, The Rentals have released their new EP a little early in digital formats. Originally due on August 14th the new EP is available now through iTunes. It is titled The Last Little Life.

The revitalized band includes original members Matt Sharp (ex-Weezer,) Rachel Haden (That Dog) along with new members Sara Radle (vocals/multi-inst), Ben Pringle (synth master), Lauren Chipman (viola/vocals) and Dan Joeright (drums).

A band that is often credited for opening the door for synth-punk bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Reggie and the Full Effect, The Rentals have remained dormant since shortly after their 1999 release, Seven More Minutes. At various times, it has featured members of The Decemberists, Weezer, The Special Goodness, and Saturday Night Live cast member, Maya Rudolph.

Hey Mercedes has announced two reunion shows set to take place next month. The band explained:

You kept asking us to get back together for a show, and we listened. Details will be announced on our weblog and via myspace this week. We will get information out as soon as we can. This ‘early’ post is so people who are planning to travel can set aside time and make plans. We would love to see everyone out. New friends and old. This will be good times.

The beloved band split up in January of 2005 after releasing several albums via Vagrant Records. The shows will take place on September 13th and 14th in Milwaukee and Chicago respectively.

Dillinger Escape Plan has seen another lineup change as longtime guitarist Brian Benoit has been forced to leave the band due to injuries which have sidelined him for the past two years.

I’m still trying to remain positive throughout this whole disheartening ordeal, hoping that one day my situation will improve, but unfortunately for now I still can’t do what I truly love…which is to play an instrument that has been a part of me for a better part of my life, and to perform with my friends…that is the Dillinger Escape Plan.

The Great Deceiver have launched a new player featuring two new tracks from their upcoming debut for Deathwish. The band was formed by vocal legend Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, Disfear, etc) and longtime friend Kristian Wahlin (Necrolord), visual artist to At The Gates and Dissection. They formed the band just after the demise of At The Gates in 1999.

The band previously released albums on Trustkill and Peaceville and will be making their Deathwish debut with Life Is Wasted On The Living. Produced and engineered by Berno Paulsson (The Haunted), the record promises the intensity of hardcore, the power of metal, and the hook laden repetition of industrial.
