Angels & Airwaves: “Everything’s Magic”

Tom Delonge’s Angels and Airwaves has posted (some) of the first single from their new album. The band’s new record is titled I-Empire and is due out October 23, 2007. It is the follow-up to We Don’t Need to Whisper which was released in 2006.

Of course, the myspace page only hosts the first 90 seconds of the song, despite the fact that the entire song was leaked earlier this week.

Jimmy Eat World detail “Chase This Light”

Jimmy Eat World have released details about their their upcoming full length. The record is titled Chase This Light and is due out October 16, 2007. The album was produced by Butch Vig (Against Me!, Nirvana) The record will be the follow up to 2004’s Futures and 2005’s Stay on My Side Tonight EP. .

The album’s first single “Big Casino” is now available on iTunes .

Snapcase posts rare song; DVD rumors

Snapcase has posted a rare track as well as sent out some updates on their long-awaited DVD which was first promised in January of 2005 shortly after the band split up in 2004. According to guitarist Frank Vicario:

The dvd is still in progress, we’ve actually been making a lot of headway in recent months so hopefully not too long now.

Snapcase is also featured in the upcoming Anti-Matter Compilation book and has a song on the soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground.

Black Lips in Israel

With the imminent release of their long-awaited studio debut for Vice, Black Lips recently took a trip to Israel and Palestine. The record is titled Good Bad Not Evil and is due out September 11, 2007. It is the follow-up to the live disc, Los Valentes del Mundo Nuevo which was released in 2007.

The five part series includes a variety of performances from television to an acoustic performance in Bethlehem.

Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Abby Banks collaborate on “Punk House” book

Thurston Moore, the frontman of Sonic Youth has collaborated on a new book of photographs with photographer Abby Banks. The book, titled Punk House, attempts to document the so-called “punk house”:

[A house where] like-minded punks cram into a house usually intended to accommodate two or three people, resulting in low rent and, thus, extended hours of leisure for the residents to pursue their true interests.

[It] features anarchist warehouses, feminist collectives, tree houses, workshops, artists’ studios, self-sufficient farms, hobo squats, community centers, basement bike shops, speakeasies, and all varieties of communal living spaces.

The book is due out on October on Harry N. Abrams.

Hilly Kristal (1931-2007)

Hilly Kristal, founder of famous New York venue CBGB, died at the age of 75 this past Tuesday of complications from lung cancer. Kristal ran the club from 1973 to 2006, giving vital early support to the scene that brought the world the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Blondie, the Talking Heads and many others. The club was recently closed following a prolonged battle with the venue’s landlords, with the ensuing tributes and send-off shows solidifying the venue’s status as a punk rock mecca and possibly the genre’s greatest landmark.

Kristal is survived by his daughter, Lisa Kristal Burgman, son, Mark Dana Kristal, son-in-law Ger Burgman, grandchildren Jenny and Adam Burgman. A private memorial service is planned with a public memorial to be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in Hilly’s honor may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Hilly Kristal Foundation for Musicians and Artists

Jonny Stevens (The New Breed) full album download

Jonny Stevens, former frontman to Halifax punk act the New Breed, has offered up his solo debut as a free download via his website. The Nova Scotia musician recently toured Quebec and Ontario behind the record, also performing with former Ducky Boys frontman Mark Lind.

The New Breed released Port City Rebels in 2003 and Off The Beaten Path in 2004 via Thorp Records.
