Members of Cro-Mags, Biohazard, Pro-Pain, Merauder form Bloodclot, post music

Members of New York City Hardcore staples, the Cro-Mags and Biohazard have joined up with members of NY metal bands Pro-Pain and Merauder to form Blood Clot.

The band is currently seeking a record deal with their self-produced debut, Burn Babylon Burn. Vocalist John Joseph notes:

I don’t want to lock it into any categories. There are hardcore and metal qualities, punk rock qualities, even some fusion in certain parts. It’s just heavy music, with a heavy message.

You can check out some music and upcoming tour dates on their myspace page.

Hunter Revenge (AFI): “Who’s Gonna Love U Now?”

AFI‘s Hunter Burgan has posted a new self-produced video from his side project Hunter Revenge. He adds:

The record label approved a budget of $1.00 for this video, so my dreams of shooting on 35mm were just not going to come true. Instead, I bought a Snoop Doggy Dogg postcard and used my digital camera. I was also going to get Stevie Wonder to make an appearance, but he never returned my calls.

Fans expecting something close to AFI or even Blaqk Audio may be slightly surprised to find that Hunter is really aiming to indulgence his love of 80s-era Prince. That said, it’s much better than the Batman soundtrack.

My Chemical Romance condemns “emo”

Apparently sick of being grouped in with “emo,” My Chemical Romance frontman recently lashed out against “emo” in a recent interview:

Basically, it’s never been accurate to describe us. Emo bands were being booked while we were touring with Christian metal bands because no one would book us on tours. I think emo is F–ing garbage, it’s bulls–. I think there’s bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo. All I can say is anyone actually listening to the records, put the records next to each other and listen to them and there’s actually no similarities. I think emo’s a pile of s–.

The band released The Black Parade last year.

Paint It Black finishes new album, talks about sound, influences, us

Our friends at Pastepunk recently had a conversation with Paint It Black about their upcoming full length and follow up to Paradise.

The band has reportedly finished recording and are currently in the “post production and little odds and ends and stuff phase of the process. The band addresses the choice of renowned underground hip hop producer, Oktopus, noting:

[Dälek] sounds like fuckin’ bulldozer insanity. I’ve always loved the way their records sound and the mood…everything is really dense. I kind of feel that hardcore…I love hardcore, we all do, but I kind of feel it’s always in danger of getting stale. You always have to challenge the form a little bit, in order to keep yourself interesting.

Dan also describes the influence of Nirvana:

Nirvana was one of the fucking punkest bands ever, I thought. In terms of what they did with mainstream music, I think they did what Black Flag did to music in like the early 80s. That’s one band that I think we all love. I mean you wouldn’t ever listen to any of the songs and think, “Oh, this sounds like Nirvana.” There are definitely certain problems in structure that got solved…like WWND, “What Would Nirvana Do?”

Finally, Dan throws out one of his famous one-liners, with a note to Punknews.org readers:

I don’t think you can make good hardcore if you only listen to hardcore. In a week on PunkNews.org some dude is going to be like, “Fuck this asshole!”

The interview is lengthy and detailed and worth a look. Check it out here.
