Riff Randells Vancouver’s Riff Randells will finally return this month with their new full length Doublecross. The 11 song CD arrives via Dirtnap Records with vinyl to follow on Germany’s Alien Snatch Records. We’re proud to bring you five tracks from the album streaming via the band’s Punknews.org profile.

I remember seeing the Randells rock out a basement bar in St. Catharines years ago alongside Chixdiggit!, and that pairing returns to the road together this October. The western Canadian acts will hit Europe this October.

Jim Bryson joins the Weakerthans for upcoming tour

Ottawa-based singer songwriter Jim Bryson has joined the Weakertans as a touring member. He’ll be acting as what he describes as a “touring utility side person” for the remainder of the year. Aside from his solo career Bryson regularly plays in Kathleen Edwards‘ band. The Weakerthans also expanded their touring line up during the Reconstruction Site era, enlisting Toronto duo FemBots at the time.

The Weakerthans new full length Reunion Tour hits stores on September 25, 2007. Their supporting tour of Canada and the US with the Last Town Chorus kicks off later this month.

Meshuggah talks about tour cancellation

Messhugah has posted a brief explanation about the recent cancellation of their European tour with Dillinger Escape Plan. The band made the announcement saying:

There are several reasons for this. The main one being the fact that the album recording has taken longer than what was originally planned. As an effect of that — Nuclear Blast Records has moved the album release to January/February of 2008.

In light of this we choose to not do a tour that could compromise the outcome of the album as well as possibly delaying the release even more.

Our intention was to have the album out in November and then do this as the first tour in direct support of the release. With this ‘album-promotional’ aspect of the tour gone, we feel that we should instead focus on the most important thing at hand — the album!

The band released Catch 33 in 2005. Their 2002 album, Nothing was reissued in 2005.

Frank Carter: “Gallows won’t last five years”

Gallows vocalist Frank Carter recently spoke with NME about his future with the band, commenting that his future lies in tattooing. He reportedly made this decision when tattooed live on stage at the August Reading Festival by New Found Glory‘s Chad Gilbert. He stated:

Gallows is not my life. Never has been, never will. It’s a hobby I get paid for. I’m a tattoo artist – that will always be my life and job. Being in a band is something I do for fun. I quit the band four times before we signed to a major label. Gallows won’t last five years.

The band, currently supporting their acclaimed recent release Orchestra of Wolves, will continue for the forseeable future though: “We’ll definitely write and record the next album. And I’d like to make a third. But as I said, tattooing is my life.”

Naked Raygun, D4, Stiff Little Fingers, Bad Brains, Copyrights, Casualties at Riot Fest 2007

The initial lineup for the 2007 edition of Riot Fest has been announced. The bill will once again feature Naked Raygun, and other bands include Stiff Little Fingers, 7 Seconds, The Queers, The Methadones, Shot Baker, The Copyrights, Bad Brains, Casualties, Dillinger Four and many more.

A portion of the proceeds from Riot Fest 2007 ticket sales will go to benefit John Stabb and J. Robbins, both of Government Issue. Stabb was recently attacked by a group of teenagers only blocks from his home. The attack left Stabb needing facial reconstruction surgery, subsequently leaving large medical bills that were not covered by insurance.

Moreover, J. Robbins and his wife, Janet, recently gave birth to their first child Callum. Several months after his birth, Callum was diagnosed with a genetic motor neuron disease called Type 1 SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Type 1 SMA is usually fatal. Those infants who survive into childhood are in for a long road of occupational therapy, wheelchairs, and assistive devices.
