Meshuggah / Dillinger Escape Plan tour cancelled

The recently announced European tour with Dillinger Escape Plan and Messhugah has apparently been cancelled. The former band made the announcement saying:

Due to circumstances not in our control, and I’ll leave it up to the other band on the tour to explain this one, The Dillinger Escape Plan/Meshuggah European tour in November WILL NOT be happening. If you bought tickets, contact whoever you bought them from for a refund. Again, if I started to comment on this right now it would probably not be good, so I’ll leave it up to them to do the explaining.

We were looking forward to this more than any of you can imagine and we are just as disappointed as anyone. HOWEVER, we ARE in the process of confirming a new great tour during the same time period, most likely in the same cities, and will announce it shortly. Stay tuned.

In other words, something is up in the Meshuggah camp.

Fat Mike’s update from Israel

As NOFX continues their world tour, Fat Mike has a brief update on the whereabouts of the long running band and their massive entourage:

Israel-ly hot here. Bad pun…..so here we are, playing Israel for the first time. So far we haven’t actually played but I did almost get beat up by a huge American skater type dude who called me a faggot because I was carrying a NOFX surfboard that some kid gave to me at a bar. It is Neapolitan colored and on the bottom it says, “NOFX so long and thanks from all the Jews”. I thought it was pretty cool but skater dude didn’t. Would have been pretty cool to get beat up by an American while in the Middle East. That’s trendy right now.

Other weird things here: You can smoke hash in restaurants; lots of people carry machine guns; on Saturdays the elevators in the hotel stop on every floor and you can’t push any buttons because it’s the day of rest; the room service menu has 2 different pages, one for meat and one for dairy and also on Saturdays, the kitchen only prepares cold food. Wacky Jewish stuff. Tomorrow we’re goin’ to the Dead Sea where I’m gonna try out my new board, then we’re gonna play in Jerusalem against the Nine Inch Nails show. They’re gonna kick our ass. Later skater, Fat Mike

As Mike mentioned, the band is currently in Israel and will soon be headed to Turkey, Eastern Europe, the UK, South Africa and Spain.

Thrice talks to the LA Times about "The Alchemy Index"

Thrice recently spoke to the LA Times about their upcoming two albums and four EPs. The record is titled The Alchemy Index: Volumes 1 & 2 and is due out October 16, 2007.

Frontman Dustin Kensrue noted:

I don’t know why anyone would want to listen to a band playing the same thing, album after album, Being in a band is like being in a marriage, you have to work at it to keep it up.

According to the story, the album will include “skittish electronics, bludgeoning rock riffs and acoustic musings similar to Kensrue’s recent solo album.” As to their major label experiences, Thrice notes that they aren’t looking for stardom:

You can see people make that choice. You can either say yes or no. The people that say no are sitting here.

You can find the story here.
