Site news! There’s no better way to spend a Friday night!
Hey friends, we’ve got a few quick .ORGanizational notes for ya this evening.
For the next few months Punknews will be scaling back to one reviews update a week, every Tuesday. As you may or may not know all our review content is volunteer written by you folks, and as with any user submitted effort the quality and quantity of the content ebbs and flows throughout the year. We’re at an ebb. We’ve decided that rather than subject you to some of the truly horrifying rants that we’ve collected, we’ll tighten the tap just a bit. By next year things should be back to normal.
On that note, we’re looking for new reviewers! The typical Punknews review can run anywhere from 250 to, oh let’s say 1000 words. Take a look at some existing works to get a feel for the format. We’re not just looking for the obvious stuff either, so if you’re hot for a subgenre that Punknews is lacking then we’d love to hear from you. Are you an old school Oi! fan? A checkered hearted ska kid? An unbathed folk punk revolutionary? A young screamo warrior? A psychobilly greaser? An expert on hypersexualized Alaskan barbershop-thrash? Then we want you. Community members can submit reviews via Punknews Reviews page. We’re going to step up and try and get you more editorial feedback on your submissions too.
Of course don’t forget you fire up your BitTorrent suckers this weekend and snag the Punknews.org / No Idea Records Fest 6 compilation. It’s 25 tracks (some of which are rare), it’s got some swell art by Mitch Clem, and most importantly it’s free.

Watch the Dropkick Murphys at Fenway
The Dropkick Murphys once again returned to Fenway Park to perform and watch their beloved hometown baseball team. The band opened with the National Anthem and then launched into fan favorites “Tessie” (the song of their 2004 World Series run) and Departed Theme/Jonathan Papelbon entrance music “Shipping Off To Boston” on a stage setup in center field right before the start of the game.
There are a few clips of the performance. You can find “Shipping Off To Boston” here and watch “Tessie” right here.

Angels & Airwaves talks Strummer, new album, punk rock
With their new album due soon, Angels and Airwaves continues to post stories and statements. The record is titled I-Empire and is due out November 06, 2007.
Though he has become well-known for a series of alternatingly cryptic and grandiose statements, Tom Delonge’s latest posting actually discusses his new album and influences rather candidly. It begins by references the late, great Joe Strummer:
Years ago on a tour in Australia, Joe Strummer from the Clash bought me a gift. He handed me a cartridge, meant for the use of rolling “smokable items”, and said these words, “I used to walk around saying ‘Fuck you, I’m in The Clash, Fuck you, I’m in The Clash!’..well now that I think about it, The Talking Heads were pretty fucking cool.” Unbeknownst to me, he and his son were quite the big fans.
The post goes into detail about the album’s unusual artwork and Tom shows quite a bit of pride in the accomplishments of AvA members like Atom Willard of Rocket From the Crypt. Largely, it does put the new band in the context of punk rock and Tom’s career and you can check it out here in the “About…” section.

Turbonegro loses founding guitarist Rune Rebellion
Norway’s Turbonegro have announced the departure of founding guitarist Rune Rebellion. The band explained:
Now Rune Rebellion, one of Turbonegro’s founders, has decided to leave the band. He will not leave the organisation however, and will continue in his instrumental role in running the band’s label, Scandinavian Leather Recordings, as well as managing a lot of the touring business. These tasks have been largely his responsibility also thus far, and the workload of the combined roles as on-stage rebel and behind-the-scenes organizer was what made it necessary to leave the band.
The band issued Retox earlier this year.

Crass documentary “There is No Authority But Yourself”
A new documentary discussing anarcho-crust-punks Crass has been completed and is available online. Titled There Is No Authority but Yourself, the film makers explained:
The ‘anarcho-punk’ band Crass never compromised, was very political and never had faked some sort of appearance. They were honest. Real. And extremely popular. Some of the members are still living together in Dial House, a quiet place in the countryside just outside London. ‘Permaculture’ workshops (‘living ecologically and sustainable’) are organized there. Penny Rimbaud (drummer) en Gee Vaucher (art works) are still living up to Crass’ ideals. They are trying to live an authentic life ‘outside the framework’.
There are two trailers available for the film here and you can also purchase or rent the film from the same site.
