Crush Luther back together

Toronto’s Crush Luther have reformed a scant few weeks after their break up. The band had this to say:

Crush Luther is staying together! After we announced the break up we were flooded with emails, messages and phone calls from people urging, pleading and occasionally begging us to stay together. We considered our options and looked at how we felt about everything and came to the conclusion that Crush Luther should, nay, MUST keep going. We’re currently writing songs for the new record and we’re really pumped about getting back into the studio, and back out on the road. Thank you so much to everyone for your continued love and support, it really meant a lot. Sorry about the false alarm. Keep in touch and stay tuned, we’ll be seeing you in the new year with a bunch of new tunes and a few new faces!

The band most recently released a self titled full length this year on High 4 Records, run by Vicky and Darrin (Goldfinger) Pfeiffer.

My Bloody Valentine plans digital and vinyl release

My Bloody Valentine has revealed that it will be self-releasing the long-awaited follow up to 1991’s Loveless.

According to the story, the band is unlikely to follow Radiohead’s pay-what-you-like download model for its new recordings. The band’s London-based manager Vinita Joshi told Billboard:

At the moment, all I can say is that Kevin is getting the band back together and they will go into the studio next month to work on the new record. The plan is that they will release the album themselves via the Internet, but there will also probably be a vinyl release.

As for the band’s highly anticipated tour set for 2008, the initial three dates sold out after just six minutes on November 16th and four shows have since been added. Both the forthcoming recording and live dates are expected to feature the band’s Loveless-era lineup, mastermind Kevin Shields, singer/guitarist Bilinda Butcher, bassist Debbie Googe and drummer Colm O’Ciosoig.

Engineer posts final Seaweed tribute selections

Engineer has revealed the finale track listing for their upcoming tribute to Seaweed. The label also had this to say about progress towards a release:

Its progressing very well, though a bit behind schedule as we are awaiting the final 4 tracks. Not too bad considering we have 15 of the 19 submissions turned in. Unfortunately due to conflicting schedules, we’ve had to see both Capital and This Is Hell drop off, and Kenny Bridges of Moneen has stepped into Dallas Green’s spot. (Kenny turned in a pretty amazing vocal delivery on a reworked version of “Steadfast Shrine” with Brian of TREOS).

The disc is expected in the Spring of 2008.

Weezer untitles album, unsets release date

Looks like the albumsix.com site was a hoax conconcted by some Weezer fans, but accepted as a legitimate news source by Billboard, Rolling Stone and (gulp) us. The record has not been titled Tout Ensemble as previously reported, and Rivers adds:

Please note that Weezer and Geffen Records have no affiliation with www.albumsix.com. The new Weezer record is not called “Tout Ensemble” and there is no official release date yet for the album. Remember, when its on Weezer.com, its for sure. (Though I will say, “well played”, to the authors of that site.)

The record remains set for a Spring 2008 release.

F*cked Up get festive

Toronto hardcore luminaries Fucked Up have discussed some details on their upcoming holiday single. The band revealed:

In honor of the season, Fucked Up has recorded a special festive single. The a-side features a brand new holiday themed song by Fucked Up. Clocking in at four minutes, this ripper is about the birth of our lord and savior: David Eliade and serves as a taste of what is to come on Fucked Up’s for coming LP, “The Chemistry Of Modern Life”, that will see the light of day next year.

The b-side of the record boasts a very special Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa song which has Fucked Up collaborating with: James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Cole (Black Lips), Davey Havok (AFI), Kevin Peterson (What’s Your Rupture?), Faris Rotter (The Horrors), Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring), Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan), Dave One (Chromeo), Jacob Thiele (The Faint), Morag and Ursula, Jay Reatard, Dan Romano (Attack In Black), Trevor Keith (Face To Face), Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid), Jerry A. (Poison Idea), Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Scott Vogel (Terror) and Nelly Furtado. This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do.

The single was recorded in studio space donated by Chris Hegge of Audiolab Studios Toronto and a limited number will come gift wrapped in “special Fucked Up wrapping paper” donated by Simone of Punchclock. All proceeds from the sale of the record will go to the George Herman House, a transitional housing and life skills program that supports women who are living with mental health issues in Toronto.

The release will be supported by an event at Toronto’s Sonic Boom music on December 15th.
