Video of the Week: Punknews Feature: CMJ to The Fest 6 (Part 1)
In my ongoing travels for Punknews.org I recently embarked on a two week journey from Richmond, VA to NYC, back down the east coast to Richmond, then on to Gainesville, FL. Included in my escapades was a trip to the Mutiny PR/Punknews.org CMJ showcase, a few days on the road with Florida’s Fake Problems, two days with a Canadian Punknews.org editor, The Lawrence Arms/The Falcon/Sundowner and American Steel; and a trip to the Fest 6 sharing two cramped hotel rooms with an audio/video crew and two bands, The Riot Before and The Gaslight Anthem.

Many people have been wondering when NOFX would do a club tour of North America, after years of seeing them on Warped and in big venues so we got in touch with Fat Wreck Chords to find out. We’re pleased to report that beginning in February, the band will be headlining an as-yet unnamed club tour which will feature No Use for a Name and support from American Steel and The Flatliners.
Expect two weeks of dates in February and an additional two weeks in March and/or April.

AFI to release live album
AFI has announced plans to release a new live album. The record is titled I Heard a Voice: Live From Long Beach Arena and is due out November 13, 2007. Unsurprisingly, the disc consists of a set recorded Live at Long Beach Arena.
The 18-song set includes newer material like “Miss Murder” but also digs into the band’s back catalogue with songs like “Total Immortal,” “A Single Second” and “God Called in Sick Today.” Three songs from the album, plus their unreleased contribution to Guitar Hero III can be heard on their myspace page.
Optimal Media introduces Vinyl/CD hybrid
Germany’s Optimal Media has reportedly introduced a new format dubbed VinylDisc which combines the audio CD with vinyl. The disc looks like a normal CD except that on the top, it has vinyl grooves etched in. Place a VinylDisc on your turntable, drop the needle at the start of the track, and you’ll hear up to 3.5 minutes of music at 33 RPM.
The format is interesting, if only as a way to provide an extra song or two for those with turntables but unfortunately the minimal amount of music that can be stored on the vinyl really will limit this for most.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones begin biweekly video series
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have launched a new online video series titled Road to the Throwdown. The biweekly series will be posted in the days leading up to the bands highly anticipated Christmas and New Year’s reunion shows.
Along with a very odd introduction, the video includes live performance footage, music, interviews with band members and various photos and other details.
You can check out the first video here.
Update:. The video wasn’t working for a lot of you, so we’ve changed it to a direct link. Hopefully this will be unbroken.

The Mars Volta post "Bedlam in Goliath" story
The duo that makes up The Mars Volta have posted what they are calling the “story” of their upcoming album. The new record is titled The Bedlam In Goliath and is due out January 29, 2008. It is the follow-up to Amputechture which was released in 2006. .
The lengthy story is available as a Word document, but here is a little taste:
The genesis of The Mars Volta’s new album The Bedlam in Goliath is one of the weirdest stories in the history of modern music, a tale of long-buried murder victims and their otherworldly influence, of strife and near collapse, of the long hard fight to push “the record that did not want to be born” out into the world. And I swear we’ll get to all of that in a second.
It’s always about a man, a woman, and her mother. About the lust floating between them. About seduction and infidelity. And pain. And eventually, murder. Entrails and absence and curses and oblivion. Exactly the kind of spooky shit you’d want from your Ouija.
It’s long, but you wouldn’t be a true Volta fan if you didn’t read and analyze the entire thing and then discuss it on The Comatorium.

John Reis (Rocket from the Crypt, Hot Snakes) talks 2008, RFTC DVD
John Reis, the mastermind behind bands like Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu, has posted a big update on some of his plans for the upcoming year.
Among the key details is an update on his still-unnamed new project:
We have been working on this record for months. Dave Gardner who engineered Live From Camp X-Ray recorded most of it. We did it almost all at City Of Refuge (the new Drag Racist). Mixing is being done by Ben Moore as I type. The record will be done in another couple of weeks. We recorded 22 songs. We will finish 18 of them. Dunno how many of them will make their way on the record. As for release date, it definitely won’t see the light o day til next year.
Finally, he adds there there will be some big releases for fans of Rocket From the Crypt and the Hot Snakes. First, Vagrant will apparently be released RFTC’s last show on DVD+CD in “early 2008.” Reis’ own label, Swami Records, is promising a two disc set from RFTC, presumably a repackaging of the two All Systems Go releases. Finally, a third new Hot Snakes live release, this time in the form of a DVD+CD.
