Lynette Knackstedt of Skankin’ Pickle (1970-2007)

Mike Park has passed on some sad news about his former band mate from Skankin’ Pickle, Lynette Knackstedt:

Lynette Knackstedt passed away on Friday, December 7th, 2008. We went to middle school, high school, and spent 7 of our adult years together in Skankin’ Pickle. She was only 37 years old.

Lynette was the much loved guitarist of the San Francisco based sextet. After the break up of the Pickle in 1996, Knackstedt and trombonist Lars Nylander went on to form the 78 RPMs.

Our deepest condolences to Lynette’s friends and family.

ETQW One of MSN’s Games of the Year

The playful crew over at MSN has published their own Games of the Year feature, highlighting what they thought were the best 20 titles released in the past 12 months. Better yet, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars made the list – in a year that saw the release of countless high profile games, this is very exciting for us.

In related (and equally great) news, Phoronix has released their own list of The Greatest Linux Innovations of 2007, with Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars making the cut as the only game in the mix.

New documentary to expose the “other” side of metal

Work is underway on a new documentary titled Behind The Suit and Tie. Unlike most music documentaries, the film will spend more time with the people behind the labels rather than the more musician-focused approach of most music documentaries.

Through a series of interviews with players from both indie and major labels, the film aims to document how the music industry is being affected by the downward spiral of CD sales and how new and up and coming artists must learn to adjust to changing times.

The film will also contain insight from Radio DJ Eddie Trunk, Paul Conroy (Ferret Records), Missi Callazzo (Megaforce Records), Al Dawson (Earache Records), Pat Egan (Relapse Records), Ray Harkins (Century Media), JC (The End Records), Mark Nawara (Crash Music), Gary Susalis (Music Choice), Rayny Forster (Moshpit Tragedy), Demolition Records, Heavy Artillery Records, Ex-Megadeth and current F5 bassist David Ellefson, and Soulfly/Primer 55 bassist Bobby Lee Burns. More labels and artists are subjected to be added.
