Never out of the news for long, Angels and Airwaves recently spoke to Billboard about some of their plans for the coming year. Frontman Tom Delonge has lined up some interesting partners for a “large” fall tour:
There’s 25 partners we’re gonna have, but the first one is NASA, and I’m working on doing some incredible things with them and incorporating NASA’s technologies into our show. I think people will be wowed with what I have in mind. Hopefully I can pull it off.
As for a smaller tour set for early 2008:
“A lot of our songs are religious in nature,” DeLonge explains, “not with faith-based religion but more about unity and what’s happening at that moment. The whole crowd is there and feeling the same thing at the same moment and very optimistic, and the message is full of hope. It’s just something different than running around and saying “f*ck, f*ck, f*ck,” which is what I did for 10 years (with blink) — and we still do a little bit now, too.
Tom also mentioned the band’s documentary, Start the Machine which covers the formation of Angels and Airwaves. The film has been submitted to several festivals for consideration, and DeLonge is confident it will be released to theaters in 2008 as well before coming out on DVD..
Speaking of NASA, the space agency deserves a round of applause as their Voyager space craft is the first manmade object to reach the edge of the Solar System. The craft was launched before many of were born and has travelled several billion miles. In 7-10 years it will cross into interstellar space, a landmark achievement.

Toronto legends the Deadly Snakes are planning a posthumous live album chronicallying their final show. The set, a massive 37 song collection, is due sometime in 2008 via In The Red Records. The Snakes played two gigs billed as their last, the “official” one on August 25, 2006 at the Horseshoe Tavern, followed by a smaller scale gig on the 26th at the Silver Dollar Room. The three hour gig at the Horseshoe featured a number of guests including members of the Dirtbombs and Mark “BBQ” Sultan.
You can click below for some crowd cam’d footage of BBQ and the Snakes covering Eddie Floyd’s “Big Bird” at the gig.
The band last released Porcella in 2005. Since they split Andre Ethier has been performing solo, most recently releasing his On Blue Fog LP. Chad Ross has performed solo as Nordic Nomadic and in a duo with Andrew Gunn dubbed Quest For Fire.

According to a Reuters article, Lucinda Mellor, the wife of the late Joe Strummer, is assembling a book of rare art and memorabilia from the late Clash frontman.
Lucinda is working with artist and friend Damien Hirst on the book which she described:
It’ll be like an art book, with photographs, lyrics, drawings, maybe unreleased songs, rarities. It’ll have CDs in it, rare Joe stuff. [I’m working with] a stack of his suitcases, each stuffed with about 30 plastic bags containing the rocker’s lyrics, cartoons and random thoughts.
Joe passed away five years ago this month.
