LaGrecia, the new project of Jason Shevchuk (Kid Dynamite and None More Black) made their radio debut on New Jersey’s GRock 106.3’s Punkyard, where they performed an acoustic set containing two previously unheard songs, “According To My Notes” and “Two Shotguns,” as well as the already released tracks “Slower Than Manasses” and “You Like Baseball, I Like Ghosts.”

Ryan DePaolo (ex-Matchbook Romance) unveils Hill Valley

Ryan DePaolo, former guitarist of Matchbook Romance has unveiled his new project, Hill Valley. Ryan explained:

This marks the beginning of my new musical journey. We are now in the process of recording one song with our friend Mike Crews here in Jacksonville. The song is called Still Motion and we’re all really excited about it. As soon as that is finished I will make a proper band myspace and continue business there, as we write and record more songs.

Songwriters Association of Canada wants $5 tax on all wireless/internet users

In yet another effort to punish everyone for the sins of a few, The Songwriters Association of Canada is pushing forward with a proposal to charge Canadian Internet and wireless users $5 per month to compensate for losses due to file sharing. The group explains:

We propose an amendment to the Copyright Act which would establish a new right: The Right to Equitable Remuneration for Music File Sharing. In addition, it would represent excellent value to the consumer, since this fee would grant access to the majority of the world’s repertoire of music,

Since the license fee would be paid by all internet and wireless accounts, the amount of income generated annually could adequately compensate the industry for years of declining sales and lost revenues, and would dramatically enhance current legal digital music income.

Foxy Shazam: “Red Cape Diver”

Recent Ferret signing, Cincinnatti, OH’s Foxy Shazam have posted the first song from their upcoming New Weathermen/Ferret debut. The record is titled Introducing Foxy Shazam and is due out January 22, 2008. The band is described as producing “keyboard propelled songs that layer spastic hardcore noise atop fractured Classic Soul inspired pop.

The band also finished the making of their video for the song “A Dangerous Man” which will also be appearing on the band’s forthcoming full length.

1917 welcomes Millenial Reign and Violation

1917 has added Toronto’s Millenial Reign and California’s Violation to their roster.

Millenial Reign are working on the finishing touches for their debut EP Bones, Dust, Nothing. The band has posted the track “Luminous Veil” at their MySpace page. The band features Damian from Fucked Up, and Jordan Posner and Jesse Labovitz.

Violation has continued to work on the followup to their Possessed EP, released earlier this year. They’re expecting an early Summer 2008 release for their LP. You can hear their entire Possessed EP at the Sound and the Fury Collective.

Distorted Magazine names Outl4w, Anti-Nowhere League, Dropkicks as best of 2007

Popular UK-based punk magazine, Distorted, has published the results of their reader poll. The magazine asked readers to name the best bands and albums of 2007.

Coming out at the top was UK-based Outl4w with the Anti-Nowhere League taking the second spot. Rounding out third place was the only non-UK band on the list, Dropkick Murphys.

Tours: Flogging Molly (4th Annual Countdown to St.Patrick’s Day)

Flogging Molly Flogging Molly have announced the dates for their 4th Annual Countdown to St.Patrick’s Day tour. This past fall, the band recorded their new full length and follow up to 2004’s Within A Mile Of Home. The band recorded in a studio in Dave King’s native Ireland and also announced the return of accordion player Matt Hensley who left the band in January who has regrouped and is working with the band once again. Since the release of Home, the band released the live CD+DVD Whiskey on a Sunday.
