Former Hewhocorrupts, Inc. CEO Reinstated

Former CEO of Chicago based music corporation Hewhocorrupts, Inc., Tommy Camaro, has been reinstated. The move comes in the wake of a similar transition by Starbucks. Mr. Camaro stepped down from his position earlier this month. Interim CEO Toney Vast-Binder agreed to step down from the company, stating “I know a good package when I see one”.

The group will be playing shows with their original lineup again on March 1st in both Franklin and Indianapolis, IN.

Jello Biafra rips into the RIAA; draws comparisons to mafia, extortion

Jello Biafra recently spoke to Norway’s Aftenposten and unleashed some serious hate against music industry trade lobby, RIAA. He does express some concern about the problem of file sharing with regards to newer bands however:

I have two different opinions on file-sharing” says Biafra, drawing a metaphorical line in the sand – with good (small labels) on one side, and bad (big labels) on the other. You may take from the big labels, because the only thing they do is steal from both the artists and the audience.

Don’t take from the smaller, independent labels. Then fantastic bands would have to surrender way too early, because they can’t afford it, Support the independent labels, but the big ones –fuck’em. Anyways, I haven’t found anything in many years which come from a large label worth buying.

The RIAA reminds me most of the Godfather, we will sue you. If you want out of this without going to court, we can make an arrangement: Give us $5000. If not, you will find a horses head in your bed. They are doing this to 12 year old girls, they are doing it to 80 year old women, and they do it to students. There are plenty of examples that show people having to quit school because they had to give all their money to the recording industry instead.

Encrypt Manuscript: “Beloved Cyst,” “Pink Slip, “Two Mice,” “Food Health Hope”

Brooklyn, NY’s Encrypt Manuscript are finally set to release their long-gestating debut full-length, and has posted four new tracks from it for streaming on their MySpace page.

The tracks are taken from the Alex Newport (At the Drive-In, the Mars Volta)-produced Census, recorded this past November and due on The Tone Library label in March. It will be released in limited quantities on compact disc and, soon thereafter, receive a wide digital distribution.

The band actually recorded an entirely different full-length entitled People in January 2007 with producer Paul Mahajan (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). However, the entire album was scrapped, as the band says: “…We felt the performance, the recording, and the songs themselves weren’t close enough to the ones we had envisioned. After a brief but tumultuous period of anger, confusion, and denial, we eventually found clarity and decided to re-do the entire record.

With Census, the band claims they “think it’s an honest and exciting representation of the musical influences and conceptual ideas [they’ve] tried to develop since releasing [a] 7” in 2005.

Record release shows are being planned for both New York City and Long Island. New York’s will take place March 29 at Fontana’s in New York City with Each Other’s Mothers, Villa Vina (ex-On the Might of Princes), Limbs and Cheeky. Long Island’s will be during the first week of April with a reunion from Church of the Rowdy and Incendiary among others.

Tours: Dream Theater / Opeth / Between the Buried and Me / 3

We don’t normally report on prog-rock behemoths like Dream Theater, but the news that they’ll be taking out Between the Buried and Me and 3 on tour seemed like it would be of particular interest to some of our readers. The month-long jaunt will also feature Opeth.

All the bands had releases in 2007: the headliners with Systematic Chaos on Roadrunner; Opeth and their double-disc live set on Peaceville entitled Roundhouse Tapes; Between the Buried and Me’s Victory effort Colors; and 3’s The End Is Begun on Metal Blade.

MP3 of the Week: Capillary Action

Jesse: It’s been a few years since I’ve been blown away by an album’s sheer ballsiness, but I can’t stop spinning Capillary Action‘s new album, So Embarassing Hailing from Philadelphia, PA (and many other places), the group defies definition: metal riffs give way to traditionalist free jazz, soaring melodies topple down onto absurdist freak out moments layered on top of samba beats. Phil Spector-like arrangements contrast with sludge metal. And on record, they pooled in at least fifteen people to fill out their vision – strings and horns, extra guitars and keys, upright bass and auxiliary percussion. You can check out three songs on their MySpace page as well as a slew of tour dates.
