Contests: Win a bunch of stuff from Punk Rock Confidential Magazine

Punk rock’s leading non-musical periodical Punk Rock Confidential has officially launched a new line of t-shirts and to commemorate this incredible transition from paper to uhm, cloth, has put up a bunch of great stuff including subscriptions to the magazine, the official t-shirts AND a smelly, used t-shirt from Fat Mike’s laundry hamper.

The magazine enlisted the design prowess of Heather Hannoura and Shawn Peterson of Dogpile for the shirts and you can find them below.

Sleepercar (At the Drive-In, Sparta) plan April release

Sleepercar, the project from Jim Ward of Sparta and At the Drive-In have set a release date as well as posting three new songs from their upcoming debut.

Jim mentioned the band to us in a recent Sparta interview, but he adds:

The first notes of “Fences Down” were written on a stage in Japan in January, during a moment of solitude at a soundcheck on what would be the final At The Drive In tour. I had been listening to the old 97’s and slowly discovering that some sort of country and rock n roll combination was taking me over.

I met some new friends who introduced me to the Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons and I was hooked. I made some half-joking plans to start a country band, but then got distracted by life. At The Drive In ended, Sparta began.

Additional musicians include 6-string guitar and farfisa by Ross Godfrey of Morcheeba fame, and Maura Davis of Denali and Ambulette sings on some songs. We mixed the record at Sonic Ranch with Justin Leeah at the controls.

The record is titled West Texas and is due out April 22, 2008. You can find three songs from the album on their myspace page.

Tours: Horse The Band announce routing for 40-country tour

HORSE the Band have announced the schedule and some of the dates/routing for the first leg of their upcoming 40-country world tour.

We are still planning a DVD, reality-TV series, and feature length documentary as well as press coverage in National Geographic, Time, Life, People, etc. We’re still waiting on a few shows in China to be confirmed and the one show in Dubai. Dubai has been a nightmare to book. If anyone wants to help us out with Dubai email us at [email protected]. Anything else still TBA will be confirmed in the next week or so.

Leg 2 will include all of North and Central America and will take place this summer, hopefully for the most part on Warped Tour (if Kevin Lyman can fit us in somewhere, evidently it’s “full” but a few tens of thousands of emails, bribery, and straight-up blackmail could reveal an previously overlooked opening). If not we start picking off uni-haircut bands with colorful, whimsical ads in the first 30-40 pages of AP. No one will notice they’re gone anyway. We’ll definitely be hitting the US, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama at least.

Leg 3 will be in the fall. We hope to confirm 3 weeks in Brazil on the Vans Zona Punk tour, followed by shows in any other South American countries that will have us. The last show of Earth Tour will be in South Africa. By that time, if we aren’t dead, we’ll have played 6 continents in one year and made the world a much, much better place by making a lot of American Internet experts on various topics who have never done anything of note with their lives (you) insanely jealous and angry.
