Bob Nanna fighting lymphoma again
Bob Nanna, former vocalist/guitarist from Braid and Hey Mercedes and currently of The City On Film, recently blogged that his battle with lymphoma is set for another bout. He commented:
The lymphoma is back. Thankfully not with a vengeance. It’s manifested itself in my left eye. So… it’s back to the scanning board. Had two on Friday. An orbital CT scan and a PET scan. If it is indeed only in my eye, then i’m going to argue for a lesser treatment than last time. My side effects with Chemotherapy 2006 were almost non-existent but that’s not to say that it didn’t still totally suck. So there’s that.
It’s not all bad news though. Bob has a number of fun musical projects linked in the blog, including mini-songs and collaborations with friends.

Dead Letter Dept. (-2008)
Toronto’s Dead Letter Dept. has called it quits. The band announced:
I am writing you today because at some point during the last 7 or so years of Dead Letter Dept. you were there to help us in some way or another. As of today we are announcing that the band will be finished. The decision was all in favor, we feel the band ended a long time ago and became something else. We are just ready to admit that the actual Dead Letter Dept. is now done.
We will be taking the next year for ourselves to travel, go to school, live in different countries etc..etc.. we still hope to make music together again in the future.
The band has no plans for a final show. The group last released Rock N’ Roll Hates You in 2005.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor talk about hiatus
Efrim Menuck, frontman for Montreal, CA’s Godspeed You! Black Emperor, has made some comments regarding the band’s current hiatus in an interview with Drowned in Sound. He had this to say:
On a personal level I now find [Godspeed You! Black Emperor] to be inappropriate [to do]. There’s a complicated back story. I reached a point whereby I was no longer willing to contribute to the steering of the ship; it was like, ‘Okay now, someone else point the direction, I love all of you, but I need to ride shotgun for a while.’
In addition to these comments, the band has left an enigmatic blog post on their MySpace page, titled simply “Adieu” and featuring a man holding his arms in the air. Sources have been speculating that the band had thus officially broken up, with popular UK rock rag NME reporting it as such. Menuck clarified the view in a statement to Pitchfork Media today:
The Drowned in Sound thing is a misquote, I’m in the middle of dealing with it now. It’s true, Godspeed hasn’t existed for years, we’ve been on permanent hiatus since 2002. If and when we do call it quits permanently, it won’t be because of the Iraq war.
