Less Than Jake co-founder/drummer and co-founder of Fueled By Ramen Records Vinnie Fiorello has announced the launch of his latest project, an indie label with an artistically-imagined direction called Paper and Plastick Records. Coupling the album releases with limited edition artwork (and, if applicable, plastic toys) designed specifically with the album artwork as inspiration, Vinnie will be issuing the releases as digital downloads and 12″ vinyl albums. On the new label he commented:
Paper and plastic are the source materials of my releases, if you think about it, prints and books are the paper side, while vinyl records and toys are the plastic side. It’s a simple and to-the-point concept. First and foremost, the world has enough labels signing pop bands, Paper and Plastick doesn’t need to since it will focus on the visual side of music – collector vinyl, vinyl toys, limited edition art prints, books, and most importantly, bands I love and respect. When a label is small, it can focus on projects and not have to mobilize a dozen or so people. There are so many bands that I run into nowadays that seem to be in this vacuum of modern music, far away from Teen Pop and Nu Metal, not wanting to sign to a major and tired of self-releasing. It’s those bands, from old friends and new friends, whose music I want to release.
Launching on May 13, 2008, Paper and Plastick boasts three new releases: Richmond, VA’s Landmines self-titled debut, former Anathallo frontman Andrew Dost’s concept album Columbus, and the Explosion‘s final recording, Bury Me Standing .

Turbonegro has been forced to cancel their upcoming performance on the European Volcom tour due to an unspecified serious illness incurred by guitarist Knut “Euroboy” Schreiner. Euroboy posted the following explanation:
I just wanted to say a few words about how sorry I am about the whole situation. First of all, I’m doing alright now, staying at home with my family and feeling ok, but I’ll be going trough treatment in the near future. I was really looking forward to going on this tour and kicking ass night after night in true, classic Turbonegro style, together with two other great bands. I’m sure we’d all have had a real cool tilme. Now my life has suddendly almost turned upside down and I won’t be able to tour or perform for a while. I can still play guitar of course, so I’ll work on some new “hot licks” and maybe write a couple of new songs (some top-of-the-mountain emotional power ballads that is, no just kidding!).
Recently there’s been changes in the line up for the first time in 10 years. I don’t want you to see what’s going on now as another step in that direction. My heart is still pounding for the mighty Turbonegro and its fantastic Jugend, very much too. In the last month we’d been rehearsing and doing some one- off shows in Norway and Switzerland, where we blasted through some new songs and and some old ones that we haven’t played for ages. I hope to be back on stage and deliver again later in the year. I think the band in 2008 fucking rocks. I miss Rune and Chris of course, but we’re all still good friends; they visited me and showed great support yesterday. But I have to say it’s very, very nice to have my old mate and super drummer Tomas Dahl as part of the engine. I know you’re gonna like it too, next time we come by to rip your dorf.
We return this week with the second installment of our interview/performance with the Gaslight Anthem. This segment includes two more live performances, and more of our talk with the band. If you missed it, you can check out part 1 here.
We also have some information on the band’s new album. Our initial plan was to be clever and have Brian Fallon, Gaslight’s singer/guitarist announce it in the video. But due to some technical issues, the footage and audio of that can’t be used. However, we asked Brian about the new record and here’s what he said:
Yeah, it comes out August 18th on SideOneDummy Records. It’s called The ’59 Sound.
