Tours: Mike Ness (Social Distortion)

Social Distortion frontman and resident of Orange County, CA Mike Ness will be heading out on a solo tour through May. His country-influenced solo act will be plowing through the South and then up the East Coast before cutting across the Mid West.

Ness last released Cheating At Solitaire and Under the Influences both in 1999. He previously discussed a new Social D album here.

Banner Pilot: “Overwinter” “Empty Your Bottles”

Minneapolis, MN’s Banner Pilot have posted two new tracks from their upcoming full-length release, Resignation Day, which is set to be released on Go Kart Records in May. The songs can be heard on the band’s MySpace page, along with two other songs form the same upcoming release.

The group previously released a Split [7 inch] with Monikers.

The Stickup getting back together for two shows

Burlington, Ontario’s The Stickup will get back together for a pair of shows this spring. The band will play Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto on April 26th followed by a May 2nd appearance at the West Side Theatre in Hamilton, Ontario. The band are planning for a new EP to be available at these shows featuring a number of previously unrecorded tracks. However the band announced:

We are not reuniting. Because of this, we will not being playing in town X anytime soon (unless X=hamilton or toronto). We have no plans to tour again. We’re just playing these shows to make up for our anticlimactic exit from the music world in 2006. So while we appreciate your enthusiasm and interest, we will not being leaving a 40 minute radius of our homes to play a show. No America, No Scandinavia, No Mexico.

The band released Please, Disease in 2006 on Verona Records. Band members David Partridge and Ryan Bruce are currently playing in Ages.

Middle Georgia hardcore band Roam Alone have posted four new demo tracks to their Myspace page to be streamed or downloaded. The band features former members of Mountain of Youth and several other Georgia hardcore bands.

Chicago IL’s The Gunshy will be heading out onto a tour for most of March. The band released There’s No Love In This War late last year, and you can find a few songs from it as well as the tour dates on the band’s MySpace page.

Merrimack Valley, MA’s Easton Legacy have posted two new songs for streaming on the band’s Pure Volume pager. The new album is titled New Nightmares to Challenge Sleep and will be released on April 19th, 2008.

Elvis Costello plans vinyl/digital release, no CD

Legendary musician, Elvis Costello told Billboard that his next album will be released only on vinyl/digital. The vinyl itself will include a digital download code to enable purchasers to grab a copy of the record for their iPods. While this has become popular with indie labels like Saddle Creek, this is one of the first albums to be released this way on a major label.

The record is titled Momofuku and is due out April 22, 2008. Earlier this month, Elvis reissued his landmark 1978 album, This Year’s Model.

Eulogy details release schedule: Set Your Goals, This Day Forward, Kids Like Us

Eulogy Recordings has unveiled their release schedule through August, as well as for their sister label, Double or Nothing, and the Hand of Hope imprint.

Of particular note is a vinyl release for Set Your Goals’ Mutiny! and a deluxe edition reissue of that same album on compact disc, a new Turmoil album, respective discographies from Until the End, Morning Again and This Day Forward, a new Evergreen Terrace 7″ and both a reissue and new 7″ from Shattered Realm.

New American Idol Ford commercial offensive to Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, aliens

The top 11 finalists of American Idol recently recorded a version of “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” for what appears to be a Ford commercial. While Punknews.org typically refrains from commentary, this video is potentially offensive to Joe Strummer’s memory, Mick Jones’ life, and UFO-piloting aliens so watch at your own risk.

Les Savy Fav plan live album for April

Les Savy Fav have announced plans for a new live album titled After the Balls Drop . The live set is due out April 29, 2008 and follows the band’s 2007 studio album, Let’s Stay Friends.

The fifteen song set was recorded during the band’s 3AM performance on January 1st, 2008. Along with the band’s own cuts, the album features covers of The Misfits’ “Astro Zombies,” The Pixies’ “Debaser,” Nirvana’s “Sliver,” CCR’s “Hey Tonight” and Love’s “Everybody’s Gotta Live.”

Tours: My Chemical Romance / Billy Talent / Drive By

My Chemical Romance will soon embark on a full U.S. headlining tour with Billy Talent and Drive By.

My Chem is still supporting 2006’s The Black Parade (Warner Bros.), though they promise a return to punk rock music on their next album. Billy Talent released the 666 Live CD/DVD combo (Warner Bros.) earlier this year and Billy Talent II (Atlantic) in 2006. Drive By released I Hate Everyday Without You Kid (Riot Squad) in 2006, but will release their new album, A Delicate Situation, April 8.
