San Francisco hardcore act Ceremony recently announced their first set of summer tour dates. Fellow Californians Saber Tooth Zombie and Life Long Tragedy will be accompanying the band for the duration of the tour.

Ceremony is still supporting the Scared People 7″ E.P, which was named Punknews.org’s top E.P of 2007.

Iron Maiden tries the “free album” thing

Iron Maiden is the latest major act to try something new with regards to music distribution. According to an NME report, the veteran metal band will be releasing their greatest hits album, ‘Somewhere Back In Time, as a free high-quality download from their website.

The catch is the 320kbps WMA format files will self-destruct after three listens after which point people will be able to purchase the album in a DRM-free format. The album compiles music from the band’s seven albums and one live album. It is due out May 12th.

Deathwish posts second live album, with Converge

Deathwish has unveiled the second edition in their new live series. The second free record features flagship band, Converge and follows the label’s release of a live Blacklisted set last year.

The Converge performance was recorded in Minneapolis, MN at the legendary Triple Rock Social Club on September 21st, 2005 and features You Fail Me-era material as well as tracks from the band’s extensive catalogue.

Queens of the Stone Age to release limited tour edition of Era Vulgaris

Queens of the Stone Age will have a limited tour edition of their latest album, Era Vulgaris, available to fans who catch them on their upcoming Canadian tour. The two-disc edition will only be available on Canadian dates of the tour.

In addition to the 11 tracks found on the original release, the tour edition will also contain live cuts of songs from the album as well as bonus tracks and covers from the likes of Elliott Smith, Billy Idol and and Brian Eno.

Dirtnap to reissue first Marked Men LP

Dirtnap Records has announced that they will reissue the first The Marked Men CD / LP this coming summer. The band’s debut was originally released by Rip Off Records but has been out of print for a few years now. The band also recently announced two upcoming 7″ releases. The first will pair the Denton, Texas four piece with This Is My Fist and will be released by No Idea. The second release will feature Birthday Suits and will be put out by Nice and Neat.

The Marked Men recently released Fix My Brain on Swami.

Tours: Attack In Black

Welland, Ontario’s Attack in Black has announced further touring in the coming months. Following the obligatory SXSW appearance and a home-region show with Ladyhawk and side project Empire Air, the band will hit the UK for a sold out tour supporting City and Colour. Upon return to Canada the band will play a stint in support of the Constantines with Jen Castle, then hit the road out west with Tokyo Police Club and Smoosh. They’ll also make an appearance Toronto’s annual summer alternative music fest Edgefest.

The band is supporting their two 2007 Dine Alone Records full lengths, Marriage and The Curve of the Earth.

Beat Beat Beat (2004-2008)

Atlanta, Georgia’s Beat Beat Beat are calling it quits. The band will play their final show this coming Saturday in Austin, Texas as part of SXSW. They’ll appear at the Rob’s House, Douchemaster, Die Slauterhaus label showcase alongside Slab City, Coathangers, Baby Shakes, Wax Museums, Gentleman Jesse and Jay Reatard.

Sky Eats Airplane signs to Equal Vision

Fort Worth’s Sky Eats Airplane have signed to Equal Vision. The five-piece recently recorded a 10-track set with producer Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Senses Fail, Hot Water Music) at his studio in Baltimore, MD.

Guitarist Lee Duck notes:

We’ve matured a lot – and for the best – since the last record. It’s more technical. You’ll hear a lot of polyrhythm’s and odd time signatures with many dynamic changes but overall, we are modest with our ‘heaviness’,

Three demos from the forthcoming release are currently posted on the band’s myspace page. The record is due out later this year.
