Lost Patrol Band (ex-Refused) becomes Invasionen

The Lost Patrol Band have changed their name to Invasionen and begun writing/performing in their native Swedish. The band explained:

There is a really crappy stuck up American artsy fartsy Indie band from NYC called The Lost Patrol and they copyrighted the name and sent us threateing letters saying that we interfered with their livelyhood and so on. […] This is also a big part of why the last LPB record never came out in the states.

We did The Lost Patrol Band for 5 years, did over a 100 shows and did a couple of great tours but… it was time for a change! So, we choose the name Invasionen. Invasionen is Swedish for The Invasion. At first we wanted to call the band Invasion cause that would work in english as well but given the fact that there are like a million bands called Invasion (Vinnie Vincents Invasion just to mention one ) we went with Invasionen.

I never ever wrote songs in Swedish, ever. For the past 20 years I’ve been singing in a language that is not my own! And when we started writing in Swedish it felt cool, a whole new way of communcating and a whole new set of words to play with. We might still do songs in English, might even do the new record in both a Swedish and English version. Right now we are focusing on the Swedish but….

The band notably features Dennis Lyxzen of Refused and The (International) Noise Conspiracy.

Jubilee (NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Icarus Line) launch digital store

Los Angeles’ Jubilee, featuring Aaron North (NIN/The Icarus Line), Michael Shuman (Wires On Fire/Queens of the Stone Age), and Evan Weiss (Wires On Fire), have opened up a digital store on their website. The band’s debut release, Rebel Hiss, is available now to download track by track. Most newsworthy, however, is that the group has adopted a subscription model. For a flat sum, you can “subscribe” to the band’s entire output for the year (slated to be two more singles and a full length album), and are entitled to bonus materials and an exclusive seven inch.

In the wake of alternative distribution methods by Radiohead, Saul Williams, and NIN, this business model more closely represents seven-inch singles clubs in the 90s through various indie record labels. For more information, you can visit the band’s website. Nine Inch Nails are slated to play Lollapalooza in Chicago this year, while Queens of the Stone Age will be playing Reading/Leeds.

Video of the Week: Henry Rollins (Black Flag era) interview

Black FlagI wasn’t quite sure what to run this week for our video. Then, fellow editor Justin sent me this interesting and hilariously uncomfortable (from a fellow interviewer’s stance) video posted over at anti-hipster-yet-hipster-by-being-anti webzine Buddyhead. It features a young Henry Rollins being interviewed during his days with hardcore legends Black Flag. A few months ago, I tried to set-up a video interview with Mr. Rollins, but it didn’t pan out. After seeing the following video, maybe that was a blessing in disguise.

Green Day confirm that they are Foxboro Hot Tubs. Everyone act surprised.

In a completely shocking move, Green Day have revealed that they are in fact, Foxboro Hot Tubs. They made the announcement in an e-mail to MTV News , ending months of not-really speculation that the Hot Tubs were Green Day.

The band added:

We think that the only similarity [between the Hot Tubs and Green Day] is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity, We are Jason White, Jason Freese, Michael Pritchard, Frank Edwin Wright the Third and the Reverend Strychnine Twitch. … We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, [and] after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin’ eight-track recordings.”

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt’s real name is Michael Pritchard, and drummer Tre Cool was born Frank Edwin Wright III. As for Reverend Strychnine Twitch, that’s probably Billie Joe’s real name.

Later this month, the band will release their debut full length. The record is titled Stop Drop And Roll and is due out May 13, 2008. It may also be the follow up to American Idiot depending on how you look at it.
