Bomb The Music Industry!: New album demos *updated*

Jeff Brosenstock has uploaded a whole host of Bomb the Music Industry! demos. The tracks come from their upcoming album, to be recorded sometime after their Asian Man Records tour. You can read Jeff’s explanation here, at his MySpace blog and get some background on all the tracks.

One track is titled “9/11 Fever!” and apparently bears some explanation:

So this song does warrant some explaining… I need to stress that it isn’t really a political song, per se. It’s about how on the 5th anniversary of September 11th there was a lot of weird shit going on… movies, made-for-tv movies, sales, books, articles… it almost felt like the media was just waaaaaiting for the day when they could start capitalizing HARD on this and the opportunity presented itself on that 5th anniversary where it really felt to ME at least, that it wasn’t really soon enough to have obnoxious shitty ass movies with celebutards running around trying to drum up some oscar nods. Especially not all at once.

I was also in Richmond, VA on this 5-year-anniversary and watching the local news was FUCKING GODDAMN INSANE. The amount of time they showed the footage, the amount of people they showed at stores buying flags, talking about how they are coping with this anniversary but seemingly doing nothing to actually enjoy their lives and the freedoms we are allowed (except for the free speech right to gay-bash or racially profile (which seems to be a lot of rights canceling each other out)) just continuing to keep the same ol’ boring as grind going. Whatever. I buy gas too, I eat at fast food joints, we’re all part of it sorry ya’ll…

And sure fuck it that’s fine, that’s cool. And that’s not really the point, to bash that. It just really fucking freaked me out to see this bizarre thing happening.

You can them all out for a limited time at their MySpace page.

Tim Kasher (Cursive, Good Life) has film in the works

Tim Kasher, brainchild behind Cursive and the Good Life, is working on his first film titled “Help Wanted, Nights.” According to the LA Times financing has been secured and casting is about to begin.

Apparently Kasher has moved from his hometown of Omaha to LA in pursuit of his film career:

[…] it’s not a friendly city to a drinker, though me and my friend ride our bikes down to the Gold Line. It’s such a sprawling city. In Omaha, a big hike to meet friends was like three miles. Here you drive 11 miles and you’re only in Los Feliz.

Check out the rest of the interview here.

MP3 of the Week: Guiltmaker / Born Ruffians

Brian: Don’t be fooled by Guiltmaker’s home on Kiss of Death Records; if you’re expecting filthy basement punk rock, you’ll be sorely disappointed. That label released the band’s 2006 EP, Driven by Arms, which was promising enough. However, Dilemmas seems like a huge growth for the band judging by the songs they’ve been posting on their MySpace page. Guiltmaker inject a bit of atmosphere and deep emotional textures into their new songs: picture a more energetic Elliott, or Circa Survive about two octaves lower. Be sure to give “Lost Ship,” “Life Given Switch” and “Battle Mountain” a try if this sounds like quality.

Adam: I just can’t get enough of the new Born Ruffians full length. The Toronto three piece plays jangly indie rock with enough sing-along freak-folk thrown in to sound great lined up to your Akron/Family records. Red Yellow and Blue came out just recently on England’s Warp Records and it’s definately worth a look. Just make sure you toss out Warp’s reputation as an electronic music label, as this is nowhere close. You should go hit up “Hummingbird” and “Kurt Vonnegut” at MySpace. Or click below to check out the video for “Hummingbird.”
