No Motiv working on “Winterlong” EP

Oxnard, CA’s No Motiv has posted a lengthy update via MySpace, updating fans on their projects since their hiatus began in 2005. The band also confirmed a new recording dubbed Winterlong:

Even though we haven’t been a band for 3 years, we still accumulated an EP worth of songs between Daylight Breaking and now. We had the intention of using these songs for a new full length album, but with everything happening right now, that won’t be happening any time soon. Max recently moved to New York, so that dispels any possibility of a No Motiv tour in the near future. Therefore, we decided it was time to record what we had written, and within the last 2 months, we’ve been working on what we are calling “Winterlong”. The EP contains the last 6 songs we wrote together and is being recorded at my studio in Santa Ana, CA. We’re excited to be able to have the freedom and flexibility to record and produce the songs ourselves at our own pace with no outside pressure or expectations.

The majority of the recording is done, but the process is currently on hold while I’m gone on tour working sound for our friends in RX Bandits. We have no other formal info as of yet, but we expect the songs to be finished by October. We will work out the details as the months go on, but we want to hold true to the name of the EP and release it in the winter. We haven’t decided the medium in which it will be released, but we’re gonna work on adding some cool things with the whole EP package.

The band last released Daylight Breaking in 2004.

Tours: Be Your Own Pet (UK)

Nashville’s Be Your Own Pet will play a few shows in the UK this August following their appearances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. The band is supporting their sophomore full length Get Awkward.

You’ll of course recall that earlier this summer the polarizing band further stirred the hornets nest of punk opinion by rather unceremoniously dropping off the Warped Tour.

I Hate Sally (2000-2008)

Kingston, Ontario’s I Hate Sally is splitting up. The band posted a statement to their MySpace page bidding fans farewell:

As everyone has come to suspect (well, our moms) we will no longer be playing live. Come to think of it, we won’t be writing anymore music either. Oh shit! Our band is breaking up!

We got to play Germany, release two full-length records, blow up lots of vans, get bad beer guts….we were a band for over 7 years, lots of crap happened, I’m sure you can get all the dirt from the soon to be released IHS bio (ha, no).

The punk / metal act most recently released a split with Quebec’s GFK.

North Lincoln: “My Summer Spent Indoors” and “Spy”

Grand Rapids, MI’s North Lincoln has posted two new songs online. Both “My Summer Spent Indoors” and “Spy” are streaming as one track on their MySpace page. The tracks will appear on the band’s long-in-the-works new full length Midwestern Blood. Guitarist Kevin Nunn commented on the delays:

The mixing and mastering has just been plauged with problems and setbacks including having to transfer everything to new studios for the process. But everything is finally about wrapped up and we swear it will be out soon among a few other new releases.

The record is expected at some point this year via No Idea Records.

Kylesa set to record

Crust/metal act Kylesa have announced plans to enter the studio to begin work on their forthcoming release:

We’ve been writing a new record over the past few months and we’re about to head to the Jam Room studio on Monday to begin tracking. We’re excited to record a new album since it’s been two years since we recorded “Time Will Fuse its Worth”. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! The cd will be released on Prosthetic Records in early 09 and the vinyl version will come out around the same time. Phillip will be producing the record. We’ll send a few updates and photos from the studio.

The band is also gearing up for a Japanese reissue of their album, Time Will Fuse Its Worth. The new version promises redsigned “matchbook”-style packaging with foil stamping and metallic ink colors. To coincide with the album, the band will be headed to Japan for the first time ever.
