Banner Pilot: “Resignation Day”

Banner Pilot Minneapolis’ up and coming punk act Banner Pilot recently released their new full length Resignation Day via Go-Kart Records. With influences from bands like the Lawrence Arms, Jawbreaker and the Alkaline Trio the group couldn’t have found a better place to stream the new record. So what are you waiting for? Virgin Festival videos from Black Keys, Paramore, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters

Taking Back Sunday Spin has posted a number of live videos of performances from the recent Virgin Mobile Festival. The recordings come from the two day fest in Baltimore earlier this month. The bill included Chuck Berry, The Offspring, Gogol Bordello, Black Keys, Paramore, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Shudder to Think and more.

Russ Rankin: “Beached Sailor” (Swingin’ Utters cover)

Russ Rankin, vocalist for Only Crime and formerly Good Riddance, has posted a cover version of the Swingin’ Utters‘ song “Beached Sailor.” You can stream the song from his website.

It’s unclear if the track will end up on some future Utters tribute or is part of Rankin’s future solo project. Good Riddance called it a career in 2007.

Tours: Deerhunter

Deerhunter Atlanta’s ambient / garage-punk act Deerhunter are gearing up for the physical release of their third album Microcastle on October 28th via Kranky. The record, recorded in Brooklyn in just a week’s time, features a cameo appearance from the Black Lips‘ Cole Alexander. Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox and the Black Lips frontman earlier this year collaborated on a project dubbed Ghetto Cross.

Following a set of shows opening for Nine Inch Nails the band will embark on an extensive fall North American tour.

“The Last Pogo” finally arrives on DVD in October

Filmmaker Colin Brunton has announced that the historic 1978 Canadian punk documentary short The Last Pogo will finally see a DVD release on October 18th. The show documents a December 1st, 1978 show at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern. Billed as “the last punk show in Toronto,” it featuring first wave Canuck punk bands such as Teenage Head, the Viletones, the Ugly, the Cardboard Brains, the Secrets, the Scenics and the Mods. Brunton was on hand to film the performances, the crowd reaction and the police and firefighters who arrived on hand to put a stop to the riotious show and remove people from the premises. Aside from bootlegs and a screening at 2008’s NXNE, the film has not been available in nearly 30 years.

The documentary is augmented with footage of a 1978 show by the Scenics, commentary by Chris Haight of the Secrets, and a photo slideshow by Edie Steiner.

Colin Brunton served as a producer on films Roadkill and Highway 61, as an executive producer of Cube, directed Duality Of Self and is currently producing hit Canadian TV comedy Little Mosque On The Prairie. He’s currently working on The Last Pogo Jumps Again, a retrospective that tracks down everyone from that night from the bands to the audience to the police. It’s set for a March 2009 release.

New Jersey’s hardcore punk act 9:18 have posted the entirety of their new EP for free download. The set, A Collection of Essays follows the Deep Dish EP and both were released by Stufend Records.. You can grab it here.

Melodic hardcore act Jerk City have posted some new music from their first demo. The band includes former members of Shattered Realm and play Kid Dynamite-influenced hardcore. You can check out the songs on their myspace page.
