Earth Crisis sign to Century Media

Earth Crisis Earth Crisis has signed to Century Media. The group will self produce their next album and are set to begin tracking next month. The acclaimed Tue Madsen (Dark Tranquillity, The Haunted) will handle mixing and mastering duties.

The band served as the mouthpiece of America’s militant vegan, straight-edge movement throughout the ’90s, detailing the ideas of animal and human liberation, drug-free living, and personal empowerment through hardcore song. This movement spawned activists who took the law into their own hands, burning down fur farms and freeing animals directly.

In a recent interview, the band promised that the new full length would be a mixture of their acclaimed full length, Destroy the Machines and major label debut, Breed the Killers.

Streetlight Manifesto announce ambitious new recording project, return of BOTAR

Streetlight Manifesto have finally released the details on their long awaited project, 99 Songs of Revolution. The band explained:

Ok, technically it’s not a new original record, but here it is: A few years ago, when BOTAR (Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution) released it’s first (and so far only) record, there was a mention in the liner notes of a large project called “99 Songs of Revolution”. This is a collection of 99 cover songs, spanning all kinds of genres, all kinds of artists. Now, a few years later, it’s all going down. And here are the details. Some of them, at least.

The 99 Songs of Revolution Project will consist of 8 full length records. Two from SM, two from BOTAR, and two each from two other SM related groups. The first SM record for 99SOR will be out in early 2009, simultaneously with another of the 8 CDs (no, not the BOTAR one). Victory will be putting out the CDs and mp3s and Pentimento will be releasing and distributing the vinyl. We are aware of our reputation to take forever to release records and miss our self imposed deadlines, so we are not giving anyone solid dates, not even our labels. Early 09 release, that’s it. We are, though, working hard on it. The demos are all but done and we head into the studio to begin tracking in October. Our upcoming tour schedule, as you know, is borderline impossible/insane, so cut us some slack.

You can read the full update on their website.

BOTAR releases A Call to Arms in 2001 and Streetlight Manifesto issued Somewhere in the Between last year.

Frank Daly talks about Big Drill Car reunion

Recently reactivated 80s and 90s-era pop-punk outfit Big Drill Car‘s vocalist Frank Daly recently spoke to Mean Street about the band’d decision to reunite:

Oh, of course. I had trepidation about singing when I did it every day, you know. That never really stopped. But once we got that first practice out of the way and sort of kind of tested things, I feel a bit better about it now than I did ever before. It seems like, personally, I made it much more complicated and difficult than it had to be when we were doing it. And coming back now and re-doing it, it’s like, God, I’ve got the easiest job of all these guys. All I have to do is stand here and move my lips.

The original Big Drill Car lineup will feature the band’s original performed together for the first time in over 15 years at the August 14th and August 17th Warped dates.

Big Drill Car released an EP, Small Block, in 1988 before being signed to Cruz Records (owned by former Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn) and releasing two studio albums. The band eventually parted ways with that label and signed to Headhunter Records, who released No Worse for the Wear, the band’s final album. Big Drill Car broke up in 1995

Scott Sturgeon (Stza) responds to arrest

Scott Sturgeon, also known as Stza of the Star Fucking Hipsters, Leftover Crack and Choking Victim, has posted a lengthy statement regarding his arrest this past weekend.

Scott also sent this note to Punknews.org:

I may have acted ‘juvenile’ at the protest/rally/musical event on friday, but my behavior is completely beside the point in contrast to the events that have transpired in the past 13 months leading up to the so called ‘Donut Social’. If any body is interested in the full story they should read the latest blog posted on our myspace page.

The real story aka: the bigger picture, includes every humans civil liberties in this country & the NYPD harassment of myself, my bands and the unconstitutional sound level restraints unlawfully imposed on politically dissenting amplified events since our free park shows last year.

If I had to do it again, I would huck another dozen donuts at the police & I would probably of hit one of ’em this time. If you think it’s ‘punk’ to defend the police, just consider the fact that they ‘huck’ bullets at innocent people every day..

The blog he mentions can be found here.

Due out October 14, 2008, the reissue will include the entirety of the original Steve Evetts-produced album as well as 10 as-yet-unnamed bonus tracks. The album featured vocalist Dimitri Minakakis who left after the band’s 1999 breakthrough, Calculating Infinity.

Watch octogenarians perform the Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen”

A video has been posted from the new exhibition No Future produced by Christoph Büchel, at the Sydney Biennale 2008:

The exhibit transforms the gallery into a rehearsal space for a punk band of volunteers who are over the age of 80 years. In the space they rehearse the 1977 Sex Pistol’s hit, “God Save the Queen” which was originally banned from the BBC but topped charts anyway.

The band gathers for practice and performs in public whenever they please during the gallery’s opening hours, during which their sessions are video-taped and recorded and will be released on DVD and CD at the end of the Biennale.

Fear Before The March Of Flames become Fear Before, plan self-titled full length

Fear Before The March Of Flames have changed their name to Fear Before and announced their next full length. Guitarist Adam Fisher explains:

It gets so tiring repeating ‘Fear Before The March Of Flames’ over and over again to old lady gas station attendants in Nebraska. Mostly because in so many ways, we’re a new band. The long version of the name was good for us in the beginning because it was interesting and stood out. It paralleled our mentality of playing the music we were writing because we told ourselves, ‘If we can pull off having this name, we had better be able to pull off the music we were writing.’ The new album is 10 strong songs, no fillers or tag-ons… and we want the band name to replicate that.

The record is titled Fear Before and is due out October 28, 2008. The album will feature guest vocals from members of The Fall Of Troy, Heavy Heavy Low Low and Portugal. The Man.
