Quote Unquote is back, interviewed on NPR’s Morning Edition

After an overzealous ISP cut the label off for hosting their own music, Quote Unquote has returned. The label explained:

We are not entirely sure what’s happening (as is our style these days) but we genuinely extend our deepest gratitude to the members of the independent media and press who have reported about our situation which we feel may have effectively saved the music that was contained within the site. We will keep you posted on where we go with our silly intellectual property from here.

To that end, the label has posted a new track from their forthcoming new record from Laura Stevenson. You can check it out here.

In related news, label owner Jeff Rosenstock was interviewed on NPR’s Morning Edition. It was for a piece on YouTube taking down campaign ads because news networks complained about the use of their footage. You can check out the interview here.

Against Me! begin work on next album

Against Me! drummer Warren Oakes recently spoke to Billboard about their plans for the rest of the year. According to Warren:

I know Tom [Gabel] has been writing this whole time. We’ll probably take a little holiday break, then just get together and start collaborating and start fleshing those songs out and work on writing for most of the early part of next year. We’ll probably do some shows some time in the spring, perhaps, to road test some of those new songs.

We’ll get in the studio when the time is right, when we have a batch of songs that are ready to go. The biggest pressure that’s ever been put on this band has come internally, every step of the way. So we’re just gonna take the time to get it right.

The prolific Gabel is also releasing a new solo EP, Heart Burns, on October 28, 2008.

Interviews: Heather Gabel

After designing t-shirts for Alklaline Trio for the past ten years, there’s a good chance a bulk of you are wearing a design by Heather Gabel. The artist, who recently moved to Gainesville, Florida, has done artwork for a number of bands, including My Chemical Romance, AFI and The Lawrence Arms. She also has an art show opening up in Chicago this Friday. The All Rise Gallery features a number of artists in addition to Gabel. For more information on that, click here.

Meanwhile, in our ongoing effort to bring you interviews with people involved in the punk community through peripheral roles, we’re pleased to bring you a conversation between Gabel and our own Ronnie Raffaniello.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones announce “Hometown Throwdown 11”

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have announced the dates for their 11th annual Hometown Throwdown show. The shows will take place December 26th through 29th at the Middle East Nightclub in Cambridge, MA, and December 31st at Lupo’s in Providence, RI. The band noted:

There will lots of great bands, special guests and surprises along the way. Please check back for more info in the coming weeks. We have made some changes to the ticketing situation in response to the rampant ticket scalping that went on last year: The Middle East shows will have a strict 2 ticket limit and will be Will Call only, paperless shows. In other words, no actual hard tickets will be issued or exchanged. We apologize for any slight inconveniecne this may cause – it’s the only way we can keep the tickets out of the hands of Grinch-like scalpers and ticket services.

Exclusive Download: Mansions: “Mr.Boddy” EP

Mansions Today, we’ve got another exclusive for you. We are giving away the entirety of one of the new EPs from Louisville, Kentucky’s Mansions. On record, Mansions is Christopher Browder. Live, Andrew MacGregor plays guitar and Salvatore Cassato plays Drums. The band is often described in terms of early 90s emo and previously released Mansions via Doghouse. Our review had this to say about that self-titled EP:

Producer Mike Sapone gives the EP his wonderful, signature finish, with drastic dynamics in distortion and atmosphere — so much to the point that towards the end of “Take It Back” and for much of closer “The Biggest Lie” (full of vague muttering and then a sincere acoustic finish), Mansions noticeably resemble post-Your Favourite Weapon Brand New. That’s hardly a pitiful plane to be put on, colorful company that promises Mansions to write some really incredible songs down the line.

You can download the new EP as a zip file via this link.
