Death Cab for Cutie planning “softer” album

Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard recently discussed the band’s next album:

The next record will be a little softer. I’m interested in writing a very different type of record next time. I feel like there’s a lot of beauty in the darkness of Narrow Stairs, but that’s not really a place I’m ready to go to for a while. I’m interested in taking a different approach and having the next record be different in tone — I’m just not interested in making another dark, dark album. Just not two in a row. I felt pretty exhausted when we got done with Stairs.

The band released Narrow Stairs in 2008.

Left 4 Dead Pre-Purchase Infection on Now

Steam PC Pre-Purchase Added to Mix of Pre-Launch Activities

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the PC version of its highly anticipated new survival co-op game, Left 4 Dead, is available for pre-purchase worldwide via Steam, a leading online platform for the distribution and management of PC games with over 15 million accounts worldwide.

Left 4 Dead is a new franchise from Valve, and has earned numerous awards as it marches to launch this holiday, including “Best of E3” Awards from Game Informer and Maximum PC magazines. Like the pre-purchase promotions happening at retail for the PC and Xbox 360 versions, those who pre-purchase via Steam will save 10% off the regular price. The pre-order promotions are part of a $10 million marketing campaign that includes television, outdoor, online and print advertising.

“With just over four weeks until launch, Left 4 Dead is showing every sign of topping The Orange Box on both the PC and Xbox 360, at retail as well as on Steam,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “Our pre-sell numbers at retail have jumped to over 65% greater than Orange Box at the same proximity to launch, and we’re seeing tremendous enthusiasm for the product in what promises to be another great year for gaming on both platforms.”

Set in the immediate aftermath of the highly-anticipated zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead features single player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay modes. Next-generation artificial intelligence tailors the pacing and difficulty ensuring a different experience every time the game is played.

Left 4 Dead is due for release on PC and Xbox 360 on November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe. The worldwide Steam release will happen November 18. For more information, please visit www.steamgames.com.

Weezer puts on the brakes regarding next full length

After reports suggested that Weezer would be back in the studio by November, guitarist Brian Bell suggested that this isn’t actually the case via Spinner.com:

Someone jumped the gun. We’re still going to focus on promoting the ‘Red’ album, and when we have the songs and the time feels right, we’ll record. [The dynamic] within the band has shifted towards being more collaborative, and a safer place for people to bring ideas to and actually be heard.

The band released The Red Album in 2008.
