Anti-Flag headlines benefit show for Pittsburgh’s Food Bank on November 9th

Anti-Flag has announced a benefit for the The Pittsburgh Food Bank . Due to the current economic crisis, The Pittsburgh Food Bank is in dire need of food, money and volunteers. 100% of the 5 dollar ticket will be donated to the Food Bank. In addition, everyone is also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the door that will be collected and delivered to the food bank. Everyone who brings a non-perishable food item to the door will be entered to win prizes such as, cd’s shirts, stickers, skateboard decks, and (what we’re sure will be a moment of tremendous awkwardness) a “Vegan” dinner with Anti-Flag drummer Pat Thetic.

Chris #2 commented:

No matter what celebrity multi-millionaire is elected to the White House real problems such as this will continue to exist. I’ve always seen Pittsburgh as a place that its citizens really care about. Once you’re here you become a part of it. This show is about continuing that tradition: showing our support for each other in times of need. Not only will it be a fantastic night of great energy and music, it’ll be an awesome show of Pittsburgh’s humanity and solidarity.

Along with Anti-Flag, the bill will include Grand Buffet, Incommunicado and Girl Fight. Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, October 18th via Mr. Smalls.

Anti-Flag released The Bright Lights of America this year.

Bush signs controversial anti-piracy law

President Bush has signed a controversial new bill which aims to strengthen anti-piracy efforts in the United States and create greater penalties for copyright infringement. The law also creates an intellectual property czar who will report directly to the president on how to better protect copyrights both domestically and internationally.

The bill had been supported by both the music industry’s RIAA and the movie industry’s MPAA. Along with increased penalties, the bill allows for asset forfeiture. This already exists in drug laws, and allows the government to seize assets.

You can find out more on the bill here.

Jonah Matranga discusses Far Reunion

In a new interview, former Far frontman Jonah Matranga discussed the forthcoming UK reunion tour:

We said if we are ever going to play more shows then it should be now. We are all in different parts of our lives and we don’t want to be one of those bands playing loud angsty rock music when we are fifty. It is not becoming and I am not interested in it, I actually get pretty dismissive of bands that do that.

The recently reunited group will kick things off in Newport, Wales on the 24th and wrap things up in London on the 28th. The band will also play two Californian dates in October, under their quasi-secret moniker Hot Little Pony.

Members of Far have been quite prolific since that band’s split in 1999. They last released Water & Solutions in `98. Frontman Jonah Matranga performed with Onelinedrawing, New End Original and Gratitude while guitarist Shaun Lopez went on to form the Revolution Smile.
