Red Scare plans Swingin’ Utters tribute

Red Scare has announced plans to release a tribute to Swingin’ Utters. The label explained:

Probably one of the most important punk bands to me and Red Scare, and in short, it’s an honor to be involved with this. There’s lotsa great bands offering up a song and you know we’re gonna do right by the legendary SF punk band. We’re thinking it’s going to be called “Untitled 21” and look for it sometime in 2009!

Bands have already begun recording, but no word on who those bands actually are yet.

Bands form organization to push for control over copyright, transparency from labels

Billy Bragg, Radiohead, Gang of Four, The Cribs, Klaxons and others have formed the Featured Artists Coalition. The goal of the group is to push for more control of copyrights and a bigger share of revenue for artists rather than the labels.

The group states their manifesto: No one knows what the structure of the music industry will look like in future. But all artists face the same challenges in today’s digital world, so we need to speak with one voice to help artists strike a new bargain with record companies, digital distributors and others. Together, the Featured Artists’ Coalition will stand up for all artists by engaging with government, music and technology companies, and collection societies, arguing for fair play and, where necessary, exposing unfair practices.
