Welcome to Woody

Punknews.org switched servers today, moving from a hosting location in Edmonton, Alberta to one in San Antonio, Texas. The new Punknews server’s name is Woody (the last two were Strummer and Joey, if you’re noticing a pattern). There will be a period of up to 48 hours in which some of you will see “woody.punknews.org” in your address bar instead of “www.” Once the powers that be all agree where the new server is you’ll all see “www.” Don’t worry though, you’re all be accessing the live site one way or the other.

The new machine is far more powerful than the previous, so we hope that you all find the site a little snapper, particularly on those 500 comment Tom Gabel articles. Let us know if you encounter any problems in the next few days.

This is also the first step towards some exciting new changes at the Org, some of which have been in the works for more than a year now. Stay tuned.

The Static Age: “Daughters and Sons”

The Static Age have posted a new demo from their forthcoming album. The band also posted an update on progress towards their next album:

Adam and I have been working on every TSA song under the sun. Well, the demos are done (and done, and done, and done again), and the next phase begins. We have a chunk of proper studio time rented out in December up in Vermont to track drums and bass for 5 to 7 songs that will comprise the basis for the next record, and then I’ll be finishing the rest at a studio space (and a little bit at the ever-growing home studio) down in Brooklyn into the new year.

An alternate version on the song is set to appear on a forthcoming compilation from Flix Records. You can download “Daughters and Sons” here.

The band released their last album, Blank Screens, in 2006.

Stabbed In Back (2006-2008)

Stabbed in Back, which was formed by former Lillingtons drummer Timmy V, have announced their split:

Stabbed In Back is on permanent-indefinite-hiatus. It’s been awhile since we broke up, and honestly it’s long overdue to announce it officially to you all. I think we were holding out hoping that it could be kept alive–but to no avail.

We’re glad the short life of the band meant as much to you as it did to us. Enough time has passed now that there has been some talk of eventually releasing our LP–many of you are asking for it, and unfortunately some of our favorite songs went unrecorded.
